The One replied: "Just the fact that you had a fever of 104 could have done a little brain damage. And add the allergic reaction to the meds......well there ya go. Just always remember the name of the meds that your allergic to and keep them in your wallet or purse so that if anything else were to happen the people taking care of you would know not to give you those. I would go see a doc about the spacing out and the ringing."
BigWashSr replied: "104 is awfully high.. It could do damage if not brought down"
i think i got a spider bite. after 2 days on levaquin, i still have numb arm and legs breathing is difficult? I think I got a spider bite on my right tricep, but I'm not 100% certain. I got rashes on the inside of my forearms, then the rashes spread to my legs, neck, and I itch all over (although it's a dull itch). The first doctor gave me 360 mg/day allegra and a shot of cortisone to stop the spread, but it didn't do much. I'm still having shortness of breath as well. I then got numbness in my right arm and my legs, my calves and hamstrings tightened up. I went to the ER last Saturday morning. The doc gave me Biaxin, which I had an allergic reaction to (i.e. it felt like my body was lit on fire). My doctor then changed the prescription to Levaquin. At first, the of the symptoms were decreasing, but now the rashes are still going (even though I've taken Benadryl the last 2 days), the numbness is off and on in my arm and legs, and I'm still having shortness of breath and a tight chest. I am coughing up pleghm too. My tonsils look weird. Is this a bite or some sort of other infection?
Angel, the itch is dull, but it's on my legs, stomach, back, neck, and arms. I don't itch them very much though since the itch is not bad enough. I am worried about the numbness going on and off in my right arm and legs though
barbara, my tonsils look kind of strange. Usually with tonsillitis, I thought the tonsils would get red and swell really bad, but mine look like craters and one of them it looks like has a white dinky dot on it.
angel, I forgot to mention...the dull itch is there 24/7...
Angel, I may have strep. From what I just read on the internet, cellulitis can be caused by strep, which would explain my rashes, the on and off numb arm and ankles, the different rashes, the tightened chest too. I looked at my tonsils again in my mirror, and I saw 2 white dots on one of them and one on the other, and both of them had "craters" on them of different sizes, shapes. I'm wondering if Strep is causing everything else in my body (rashes/hives, numb arm/legs, tight chest), and I've had headaches. I checked my glands in my neck and they are a little swollen, but my throat isn't sore (yet).
Angelgirl replied: "Is the itching at night only?
The rash and your sore throat may be two different things. Have you switched detergents, soaps, or anything like that? It could be hives. I get them and it can be itchy and some areas can feel numb. Hives aren't always easy to get rid of. You do get white spots on your tonsils if you have strep. I would go back to the Dr. and tell him all of you symptoms. If the shortness of breath is really bad or worsens go to the hospital right away."
barbaradjt replied: "My kids always break out in Roseola..I probably spelled that wrong. They get this rash from a high fever do to having tonsilitis. The tonsilitis was caused from strep throat. They eventally had to get their tonsils removed. Get a second opinion ok?"
jmiller96003 replied: "Wow, please go to the dr. or ER ASAP. The shortness of breath is not a good thing. Have them do a Strep culture on the spot. Also, check for Lyme Disease, and Rocky Mountain Fever.
Don't let the drs. brush you off. I had Rocky Mountain Fever years ago, and if I recall correctly, the symptoms were very similar.
g
Good luck to you."
tia lion replied: "go to the fucking docter'!!!"
Godself replied: "For other answerers, in case you hadn't noticed, she's already been to the doctor, and hospital ER.
The ER will likely brush you off because it is not immediately life threatening (priority is based on urgency), which means your in for a few hours in the waiting room to see an overworked doctor who scraped their way through medical school to what they believe is a crummy intern position at an overcrowded, disease and death ridden "clean room". They don't want to be there any more than you do.
The only way you are going to get the immediate, professional care you feel you need is to pay through the nose for the attention of a financially contented, dux-of-their-class private hospital ward, preferably to see someone trained as a diagnostician like Dr House MD (from the TV show). The more your doctor sees you as a puzzle rather than a person, the faster and more effective the diagnosing and treating (of whatever it is you've got) will be.
The longer your limbs remain numb the higher the chance you will be paralysed. The longer your tonsils remain "wierd", the higher the chance you will be muted. The longer you have a tightening of the chest the higher chance you will have a heart attack. I can say the same thing about every one of the symptoms your experiencing.
See medically trained professionals immediately! This is your standard of living, and potentially your life we are talking about. Stop worrying about what could happen and create your destiny. Be totally here now, deal with your current circumstances OR accept them the way they are. Complaining cannot help you! Help yourself now. GO NOW!"
I thought I had symptoms from a spider bite, but I think I now have Strep/Tonsillitis/Cellulitis? Here's what happened to me: I got a rash on my forearms, which then spread to my legs, stomach, neck, and back. A couple of days later, my right arm swelled and was numb with pain, then a while after my ankles/legs became somewhat numb with my hamstrings and calves tightening up and I got shortness of breath and a tightened chest. I was originally given Biaxin, but I had an allergic reaction to that, so my Doc gave me Levaquin. I've been on Levaquin for 2 days, and it doesn't seem to be improving my health. I looked at my tonsils and I see a couple of white dots on them, plus the tonsils are not round shaped but they have craters in them. Plus now I'm having headaches, my chest is tight, and my glands are swollen somewhat. My throat is not sore, but it's starting to tighten up.I don't think I got all of this from a spider bite. I'm thinking I may have strep or something similar.....please help! I've slept 9 hours in the last 3 1/2 days because of the numbness and pain.
Phat replied: "Hurry! and go to the ER some doc send u home without finding the problem and u continue to feel awful but if u go back and to a different doc their find the problem and it may be something the injected into u also but hope u feel better soon I'll pray u through this May God be with you!!!"
gangadharan_nair replied: "Antibiotic therapy needed to eliminate the bacteria that causes this infection from the throat. This is crucial to preventing rheumatic fever, the most feared complication of strep throat and scarlet fever.
Streptococcus causes skin infections such as scarlet fever and erysipelas. Consult your doctor."
elizabeth replied: "allergic reaction to the levaquin? Stop the Levaquin see your doc"
black rose replied: "there is some thing call SECOND OPINION and so ooonnn go see another doctor he/she is only jucing your insurance ( if you have any) or go to a city hospital / teaching hospital they would love you, common text book example and sometimes treatment is free"
deldav360 replied: "Go to the emergency room for a second opinion. You sound like you have a major infection or something equally yucky. It never hurts to get a second opinion."
wunderkind replied: "It sounds to me that you are not being treated properly. You need a second opinion and fast. Certain spiders can cause VERY SERIOUS problems."
DR. FRANK I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU PLEASE? I am allergic to ASA, PCN, Biaxin, Avelox, ?Doxycline, Ceclor. I have had reactions to these meds like rash, difficulty breathing, mouth swelling. Is there any antibiotics left out if the pharmaceutical world that I can take? If not, then what do I do if I become ill with a bacterial infection? Do they put you on steroids with the antibiotic? What kind of specialist would I see for this problem in the Pittsburgh, PA area? Thank you so much for your time. I have asked other Docs about this and they don't seem concerned about it.
GreenShaman replied: "Well first of all I have no clue who Dr. Frank is but I will leave my two cents written across Yahoo anyways. What they usually do when have an allergic reaction to antibiotics that they need to treat a problem and there is no other antibiotic you can use then they will try to use an antihistamine to try and work with the allergy to the antibiotic and usually they hospitalize you for a short time to keep an eye on you. Though I really dislike antibiotics unless it's something like penicillin and I hate most penicillins except ampicillin. It's best to use some natural remedies for bacterias but then you have to know the bacterial problem before you know how to treat it so someone who isn't as knowledgeable as a doctor will have to go to a doctor I guess for pharma med crap."
Spreedog replied: "I'm not Dr. Frank either, but I'll have a go on this one.
My wife/ex-wife has almost the same history of allergies to meds.
Avelox is an antibiotic in the class of drugs called fluoroquinolones, so a documented true allergy to this would probably exclude my old favorite Cipro. I never had a patient who could not take Cipro.
Biaxin is in a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics, so that rules out the erythromycin type drugs.
Allergy to penicillin is common, and some of these people are also allergic to cephalosporins like Ceclor. That is also unfortunate.
Doxycycline allergy would seem to rule out the tetracyclines.
Are you sure these are all true allergic reactions?
Bactrim or Septra would seem possible - though some people are allergic to sulfa drugs as well. Bactrim/Septra are the only two meds my wife/ex-wife seems able to tolerate.
I would suggest an allergy specialist first of all to attempt to prove true allergies to all these antibiotics. An infectious disease specialist may be useful for consultation if you do develop and infectious/microbial illness."
Steven's Johnson Syndrome question! Immediate help is greatly appreciated!? Hi, I'm taking Bactrim DS for a sinus infection that was unresponsive to Augmentin (20 days) and Biaxin (30 days). I'm very nervous about Steven's Johnson Syndrome because A) I have a LOT of reactions to medications... to over 15 different meds.... and B) I've never taken a sulfa drug before.
Anyway, what I'm wondering is: if I watch VERY closely for any signs of a rash, sore skin, redness, feeling worse, headache, general malaise, etc. and stop taking the medication (plus notify my doctor immediately of course), would that reduce the chance of a severe case of SJS? Also, how common is SJS with Bactrim?
Thank you so much!
candyisdandie replied: "That should be ok to take. I had SJS before when I took penicillin. I have taken Bactrim and am ok. I am not a Dr. though, so be careful."
Rockford replied: "Most common side effect is upset stomach, vomiting and loss of appetite. You should watch for Steven Johnson Syndrome just to be safe."
