How soon would I have an allergic reaction to Diflucan after taking it? I had a very bad localized allergic reaction to some of the external yeast infection cream that I used (severe swelling and inflamation of the area). I just took Diflucan a little bit ago and now I am worried that I might have an adverse reaction to this as well since it could be in the same family of medication as the one I was allergic to. How long would it take for me to have a severe reaction if I were going to have one? I just want to know at what point I am safe.

Yekaterina replied: "Usually it begins immediately. If you haven't seen a reaction, then you're more than likely ok."

Royce Ann M replied: "First if you used one of the two OTC creams it is not in the same family. Second if you are going to have a reaction to it the reaction should show up from 45 minutes to 4 hours. Good Luck"

What is Your Experience with Diflucan in treating a candida infection? I was on antiobiotics for over a year to treat acne. After completing this, I developed oral thrush due to probable overuse of the antibiotics. My doc put me on nystatin which worked for a while but i recently had a flareup and some intestinal issues, which makes us think I might have a systemic candida infection. He has once again proscribed nystatin and now diflucan. Have people had success with this?

rgdet replied: "yes - it works well"

you-asked! replied: "diflucan is the best thing to happen to women since the creation of tampons!!! biut it is one of the only medications that makes me naseous, and it usually makes me crampy, but only for the first day, soooo worth it. thank you diflucan!"

Kyle replied: "ehhh i have no idea wat that is =o"

Lucky replied: "Diflucan will work to help with symptoms if you have an overgrowth of candida in your digestive system but the only real way to try to get rid of it is through proper diet. Not eating foods that the yeast thrives on is the most important thing to do to restore the balance. Get yourself a supplement like Candida Cleanse at your local health food store."

How long do I need to wait before having sex after taking diflucan to cure yeast infection? I'm suffering from a yeast infection, I've tried to treat it with the over the counter monistat, it relieved most of the symptoms but they came back a few days later. My doctor prescribed me the one dose of diflucan, if I take it today how long will it take to cure my yeast infection? and how long should I wait before having sex?

Twinkle3 replied: "Diflucan takes about 2 days for you to feel releif, and you should be cured by the day 3. From personal experience, I would advise you to wait until day 5 (after taking the pill) before sex."

3ng1n33rgurl replied: "First answer is good. Keep in mind guys can get and spread yeast infections, so it will be considerate if you have the guy wear a condom for like even up to a week after you and him resume sex, just so he doesn't get it and give it back to you."

Laura L replied: "The partner needs to be treated because he has it too. He will continue to reinfect you if he isn't treated."

m replied: "It should say on the box, but I think its 3 days."

How long do I have to wait in order to take a second pill of diflucan-150mg? I have Oral Thrush and I took one pill of Diflucan on Friday afternoon and the sores are still bad and it doesn't seem to be helping. When would be the earliest I could take a second pill. The doctor said to wait three days, but I wouldn't mind taking it Sunday if it wouldn't hurt me.

ScorpioRising75 replied: "If the doctor said wait thrree days, then you wait three days. That's all there is to it. If you are thinking that these instructions don't work for you, then you should call the doctor to ask for further instructions. Your doctor has an after-hours phone number or paging service; so call that."

Rita B replied: "follow your doc's direction.....it's not going to be gone in a few hours and if you take the meds too soon....it could hurt you. Read the effects on your med info sheet...."

What is the optimum doseage for Diflucan for an ear infection thought to be a yeast infection in a Labrador? Dog has brownish substance and bitter smell in one ear. Amantadine was first used, and her ears were cleaned, and she still is showing signs of infection. I believe it is probably a yeast infection, and I would like to use some Diflucan to treat her. I don't know doseage for and 85 lb Labrador. I have many vets, and docs in my family, and I have diflucan on hand. I only have information on dosage for humans. I would only trust information that were consistant with information I already know... but thanks for the advice... Non Amantadine... Augmentin.... my bad... I am not a vet, but I have many who are in my family who will be glad to help my when they are not working. I have a doc bringing me some diflucan, and I am just trying to figure out the correct doseage I should've read the rest of the response before, but I needed to correct the amantadine mistake. As far as the topical goes, I have been using some Clotrimazole over the counter cream, but I am worried about going too deep in her canal. I also have worries about pushing any buildup down into her ear when I enter the canal with a swab. I would rather use oral and knock the infection out To Merlinandmeimei- If what you say is true, that is quite alarming. I understand that pretty much all store bought dog food is "junk" are mostly 50% filler (grain or rice). My dog would love nothing more to eat an "all meat" diet, and I would love to feed it to her, but there are also heath problems associated with that. Labs (and I think all dogs) have an inherent allergy to beef fat that causes theme to get ill in response to eating beef all of the time. All meat all the time will get expensive, too, can I put her on a meat and guts diet? ....Thanks for the information on how yeast may effect the overall health of a dog throught its life cycle, I will definately look into that information. .... As far as the Blue Star, perhaps subtracting the alcohol from the mixture (and using the substitute) might be best. I dont think that alcohol would kill the yeast, and might cause drying and inflamation. It is probably something other than the alcohol in the ointment. thks Merlinandmeimei- I have also seen yeast used as an ingredient in very many dog foods... What you say about yeast makes alot of sense...

MOM KNOWS EVERYTHING replied: "See the vet. Why would you take advice on your dog's health from strangers on the internet?"

princess_jean1 replied: "Please contact your vet. He/she is the one qualified to tell you this. Take your dog in to see the vet. He can tell more from seeing her ears. He can also tell you definitely whether or not your doggie has a yeast infection and he can prescribe drops in the correct dosage for her weight and breed."

momma dog replied: "I guess that I am confused as to why Amantadine was used? This is an anti-viral drug for influenza and has uses in Parkinson's Disease. General speaking, fluconazole (Diflucan) is only used if topical therapy is ineffective. There is potential here for liver problems and other metabolism issues. So, I think I would try a topical anti-fungal treatment first. Miconazole & ketoconazole creams are available over the counter. However, if you are detemined to this course of action, the dosage is 5 mg per 2.2 lbs of body weight by mouth once per day. Your dog, 190 mg. Later: whew, thanks for the update! I was real confused with the Amantadine! I agree with never using Q-tips on a dogs ears, you can just push stuff deep into the ear canal. What I generally use is Malaseb (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal) flush. Rinsing until no more crud comes out. Go ahead with the Diflucan at 190mg once per day for 7 days. Any other changes (fever, drooling, vomiting) then take her to one of your family members."

merlinandmeimei replied: "First of all, medications for humans can be deadly for your pets. Secondly, you have to understand the cycle of yeast infections in pets, to understand the effective cure. Yeast infections are easily treated with Blue Power, which you can make up at home yourself, however, unless you are willing to address the underlying case, it's virtually impossible to break the yeast cycle. You have to change your dog food. If you don't remove the source of yeast (poor quality dog food), the infections will keep coming back. Please refer to this link: Candida Albicans - YEAST Infections Information about yeast infections Candida Albicans - Yeast Infections The main cause of yeast infections, such as Candida Albicans, is from grain-based foods and drugs, chemicals and poisons. Dogs were never meant to eat grains. Their main diet in the wild is raw meat and vegetation. The only grains they ever get are already predigested in the stomach or the bowels of their prey. Cooked foods anything in a can or a bag, vaccines which compromise and destroy the natural immune system, antibiotics which kill the friendly bacteria which would ordinarily fight and overwhelm the yeast, steroids that shut down the body's ability to fight back, and any and all other drugs, chemicals and poisons, including frontline, advantage, program, heartguard, etc, that compromise the immune system are all additional reasons for seeing such a preponderance of yeast infections. Yeast infections seem to be one the most under- diagnosed illnesses in the veterinary field. Symptoms include: -chronic ear infections; -incessant licking of the genitals or the paws or both; -lick granulomas; -habitual scratching, usually the ears, sides of the torso and underbelly; -rashes, most often on the underbelly; and when the yeast begins to move into the head; -loss of hearing; -loss of eyesight; -loss of balance; -obsessive behaviors such as walking in circles, doing good or bad behaviors redundantly; -loss of intelligence, memory and comprehension. Yeast infections always start somewhere in the digestive system; then move to the genital area, on to the ears, then finally to the brain, taking over the entire body. It is insidious. Very often these problems are treated with antibiotics or steroids, which only make matters worse. Do not feed anything that contains grains, dairy, fruits, rawhide, pigs ears, plastic or nylon bones, pressed treats or dog biscuits. Do not give any drugs, chemicals or poisons, including vaccines, frontline, advantage, heartguard, antibiotics, steroids, antihistamines, et al. All of the above will only exacerbate the symptoms of the yeast infection. With all dogs who have a yeast infection or a predisposition to it, they must be on the raw food program OR on a special commercially prepared food that deals with yeast infections, and contains absolutely no ingredidients which would presipitate yeast growth. Your dog will probably have to remain on this new diet for the duration of their entire life. It is similar to being an alcoholic: one sip of liquor will send an alcoholic right back into all the cravings and problems. This is true of the dog with a yeast infection. Any of the above foods, treats or drugs will bring back the yeast with a vengeance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then please take a moment to understand dog foods and consider switching to a premium quality food: What's Really in Dog Food Get The Facts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then please refer to the simple home cure at: BLUE POWDER ============ Here is what I use to keep the ears clean, free of infection and healthy. It's called blue powder, and almost every shar-pei owner in the world knows about this and uses it. It's easily made at home with: 16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol - *IF there is a lot of open or broken, irritatated skin inside or around the ear area, the Alchol can be substituted with Witch Hazel* 4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder 16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1% Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. To use, purchase the "Clairol" type plastic bottle or a small baby ear syringe bottle to dispense solution to affected ears. TREATMENT: Evaluate condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore do not attempt to pull hair or clean out ear at all. Wait until inflammation has subsided which will be about 2 days. Shake the bottle each time before using. Put cotton balls or similiar absorbent material under ther ear. Flood the ear with solution, (gently squirt bottle), massage gently to the count of 60, then wipe with a tissue. Flood again on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. The dog will shake out the excess which can be wiped with a tissue, cotton ball, etc as the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics. The SCHEDULE of treatment is as follows: Treat 2x per day for the first week to two weeks depending upon severity of ears Treat 1x per day for the next 1-2 weeks Treat 1x per month (or even less frequently, depending on the dog) All of these ingredients should be available at a pharmacy. Others have found that despite the alcohol, the dog will not object to even the first treatment. The Boric Acid Powder soothes the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. The solution appears to work well on any and all ear problems from mites to wax to canker. After the 2nd or 3rd day you can clean out the ear with a Q- tip or cotton balls. The success rate for this treatment is 95-99%. Dogs on the verge of ear canal surgery have been returned to normal with only the regular follow-up treatment to keep the ear healthy. If an infection seems to be remaining in the treated ear after the above course of treatment, you may also have some Pseudomonas bacteria in the site. This can be eradicated by using a gentle flush of raw apple cider vinegar and water(warm) . Use 2 Tablespoons of vinegar to one cup of water, 2 x per week. They have found the Blue Powder Solution to be effective for treating fungus-type infections on the feet and elsewhere on the dog, for cuts on dogs or people, and for hot spots. Remember it is for external use only ..so be careful not to get into the eyes. SMALL TRIVIA ============ Most products developed for the treatment of vaginal yeast infections contain Gentian Violet! Thanks and best of luck MM"

What do I do for the symptoms while waiting for Diflucan to work? I took Diflucan yesterday @ 4pm. This morning it seems that the symptoms are worse. How long until I get relief, and what do I do for relief in the mean time? the doctor told me to stop using the creams. Probably because she can't take a culture with the cream there if the symptoms persist...

Melinda replied: "you can buy the vaginal cream that you can use to help on the outside. As for how long it will take to work. probably about 24hours. I really never liked the diflucan. I look at it this way. put the medicine where it is bothering you, not wait for it to get through your body. Of course, the Diflucan is a lot cleaner then monistat though."

is diflucan used by itself enough to cure a yeast infection? I was wondering if taking the pill diflucan for a yeast infection would be enough to completely cure it, or would I need to use a cream for the outside? I took the diflucan 3 days ago (it says it can take between 3-5 days to work) and the discharge has stopped but my vulva is still very irritated and red. Would I need a cream for that or will the diflucan take care of it in a couple more days?

krazegurl_ds replied: "The cream is just to soothe the outside and the vulvular area. But the diflucan should be enough to heal everything, just give it time. When i get diflucan for my yeast infections that's all i use because i hate how messy and sticky the cream is."

rr c replied: "Diflucan is powerful so it should be enough to clear your candidasis. Guess that you can try with some creams to soothe the redness or some simple yogurt."

Rebecca W replied: "Taking the Diflucan pill will get rid of your symptoms eventually but if you are still having symptoms after three days you can use a cream as well. However, I would not call any of these things a "cure" but rather a temporary fix. What you need to do is take care of the root problem here. I know from experience that you will eventually get another yeast infection! What happens is that these pills and cremes treat the symptoms and so the yeast seems to be gone when really it is still "hiding" in your body just waiting for the right conditions to return. So, if you would like an actual cure for your problem that doesn't involve pills and creams you can find more information by clicking on this link:"

I have a really itchy vagina and i have tried diflucan and a bicarb soda bath. What can i do? I have had an itchy vagina on and off for a while. i have tried diflucan and bicarb soda in the bath but it hasnt worked. It also smells to. It is really embarrasing and the itching gets really bad sometimes. I really dont like going to the doctor about these things...Please help!

offspringkristy replied: "Um, you should try shaving. In case it's crabs. Or just go to the doc it's not that bad."

MV replied: "You have to go to a Dr. Go to a Gyneo. If you have milky discharge you need an anti-biotic. If it looks like cottage cheese discarge you and get stuff at the grocery store in the feminine isle. Usually they're suppositories "yeast infection"."

brandon's wife. replied: "It sounds like you have a yeast infection, you need to go to a doctor. If left untreated, it can cause problems for you later."

g spot replied: "you got std"

marys.momma replied: "Could be an ordinary yeast infection. You really should go to the doctor if this is the first time this has happened. You'll get an exam, a diagnosis, and either a prescription or advice about an over-the-counter remedy. Don't try an over-the-counter remedy before seeing the doctor, though. It could confuse the situation and mask symptoms that might be more serious."

Doctor V replied: "I am sure what this is, but with little information its hard to know. I think its a Yeast infection, Yeast infections are also known as Candida, Candidiasis is an infection caused by a group of microscopic fungi or yeast and there are more than 20 species of Candida. Just for your information men also get this, For a woman, however, the problem is a little trickier, since yeast thrives in a dark, moist environment. Simply put, the vagina is yeast's dream home! I have a Herbal Remody here for you and thats Garlic Cloves, Place a Garlic Clve, with skin off, into the Vagina, not to far in, This shall sooth any Unwated Itchy-ness and it will calm any rashes also, Or if you dont want to do this, rub some garlic Pure' On the vagina and a little inside. This should make it clear up in a good time, but also YOU MUST got to a doctor!!!!!!!, Yeast Infection can be serious if not treated Quickly, i Suggest you make an Appointment with your Doctor ASAP and he will supply you with Anti-Biotics Doctor M Vallentine"

How long does it take for Diflucan to work? I have a vaginal yeast infection. I took Diflucan(one time dose) at 3:00 this afternoon. How long before the irritation and itching goes away? I'm supposed to be my boyfriend Friday and I obviously won't be able to do "anything" if I have this irritation so I'm wondering how long it will take...thanks in advance.

lnfinitelylnteresting replied: "You are looking at around 24-48 hours before you feel any kind of relief and it doesn't work on all yeast infections. If you don't feel some kind of relief in 2 days you need to get an over the counter insert treatment to use as well. It all depends on your body and the kind of yeast infection you have. Sometimes diflucan works and sometimes it doesn't."

How long does it take for diflucan to work in an infant that has thrush? My friends 2 1/2 m/o son has had thrush for 6 weeks. She has done both a round of gentian violet, and nystatin oral liquid, but nothing has worked. He took the diflucan about 5 days ago. Should a difference be noticed by now? Is mouth is raw, but still he has thrush. Everything has been boiled after each use. Why does he still have it? Sry- I meant his mouth, not is mouth! lol.

tory43215678 replied: "The longer is goes unnoticed and treated, the longer it can take. That stuff grows crazy, tell her just to keep administering the medicine as often as directed."

mell_mell013 replied: "When my baby had thrush and took diflucan, I noticed an inprovement after the very first use. Seems like the medicine lasted about 2 weeks and I just gave it to him til it was gone. Good luck:)"

kelsey f replied: "when my son had thrush, it was gone within two weeks. but we caught it litterally the day it appeared ( because he was in the hospital ). so the longer it goes unnoticed/treated the longer & harder it with be to get rid of. im not sure what the gave my son, its been too long ago. but it was in a brown bottle & the medicine itself was yellowish, and it worked wonders! he could still have it, if his hands are dirty & he sucks on them, or mom & dad let him suck/chew on their fingers without washing them first. it could be a number of things. you didnt say wheather or not he's been to the doctor lately, but i'd def. get him there if he hasnt, that must be so painful & misrable for him :( best of luck hope the little guy gets better soon!"

MomuttsMom replied: "My son used to get thrush ALL the time due to reflux......When he was given Diflucan, it usually started working within 24 hours........Usually completely gone in a couple of days. I would call the doctor again. Something is going on there."
