How 'well' does Wellbutrin work for you? I started a prescription for Wellbutrin (generic name: bupropion) today. I have ADHD, but my psychiatrist feels there's a good chance I have an underlying disorder along with it, which might explain why my ADHD has been getting slightly worse the past few years, not better. My psych suspects a mild anxiety disorder, mild depression, or maybe both. I think I can see where he's coming from, but I'm not sure. Anyway, as some of you know, Wellbutrin/bupropion is one of the few drugs that's indicated for all THREE of these disorders! :) Not that it helps everyone, and it doesn't always help ADHD as much as it helps anxiety/depression. But it sure sounds promising to me, and I also like that it has significantly LESS likelihood of bad side effects, compared to anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drugs in other families, like the SSRI family. If you're taking or have taken this, please share your experiences. Hopefully there will be more "success stories" than "horror stories"!! P.S. I'm starting on a super low dose: 37.5 mg daily. The lowest the generic bupropion pills come in is 75 mg, so my psych said to take half a pill for 10 days, then go up to 75, which is still considered very low. (He knew I was nervous to try the drug, so he wants me to ease myself into it).

mightyart replied: "Oy, I know you're probably not going to find this helpful, but I mean for it to be. My cousin was on Wellbutrin. She had a seizure. She is healthy. Nothing like this EVER happened to her before. It scared the crap out of her poor kids. She drinks lots of caffeine."

Wizzard2 replied: "It seemed to work- increased dosage cause very dry throat. good luck"

princess replied: "I took wellbutrin for about 6 months for depression. Did not seem to help any. Made my mouth real dry and made me sick at my stomach. Not taking it anymore...."

sandra j replied: "My son takes it for Adhd with ocd. I haven't seen a lot of difference in his behaviour, though depresison is definite problem for him. It is supposed to work well for addictive behaviours and depression. I took it in the past and it made my blood pressure go way up. If you have blood pressure problems avoid it. Otherwise, give it a try and let an objective friend tell you if they think it is working."

jakesmom73 replied: "I hated it, It made my feel very hazy. Just started Concerta, liked it at first but now, cant tell much of a difference???? Alot of times Depression is brought on by ADD or ADHD, so some say the ADD/ADHD should be treated first. Hang in there sweetie."

avidcyclist4 replied: "Well, I must say it is very impressive to see someone well educated on the meds they are taking and take the time to create a proper question, one of the best I've ever seen. Now, on to the subject. I use Wellbutrin in combination with Zoloft, I take 450mg a day of Wellbutrin, I think that's about the max, not sure though. It works well for me and controls my emotions and moods very well, I have experienced no side effects other than a muted sense of emotion, but for me that's a good thing. I find it very difficult to cry but I also deal very well with emotional upheavals like relationships on the rocks where in the past it required a hospital stay to stabilize me."

GOUTVOLS replied: "I DESPISED Wellbutrin. In the fine print, my Dr. did read to me, it says a certain (small) percentage of people can have seizures with it. I took it ONE time, excited too, because it was to help my mood swings and give me energy. I awoke 2 hours later to find that my vision had been permanently impaired due to Wellbutrin. It caused small seizures to the nerve endings in the back of my eyes. Now, my eyes constantly jump (up and down) and I must take Lyrica daily to control the seizures in my eyes. I say stay away from Wellbutrin!"

laurie k replied: "I have heard true stories of multiple people that have commited suicide on wellbutrin. I would never tell anyone that it is heplful. If it makes you feel funny in any way please stop taking it. There are other better things out there for your problem."

sugars_that_heal replied: "Try the natural approach read my page and tell your doctor about this information also. Most likely he wants to continue getting paid."

C L replied: "Hi, Name name is Shai and i have been taking wellbutrin 300mg and its is not working for me. I just called my doctor and reschedule an appointment cuz this makes me feel worse. I have been taking it for two months. I would love to hear from someone if wellbutrin really works."

keepingthefaith replied: "It is not going to effect two people the same. antideppressants are trial and error, kind of like birth control pills. Everybody's body is different and responds differently to medication. Try it and if it works for you then great if not talk to your dr. abut your symptoms and other options."

tysgrandma99 replied: "am on disability bored smoking 15 packs of cigarettes a week and have been on 150mg.for 3 months i am down to 8 packs a week.so the work great to stop smoking ..was to take two a day but the pain in my joints was unbearable..good luck.i am always crying, for no reason, started when taking pills."

bupropion side effects? I take bupropion 100mg a day is there a chance i will lose weight i just started taking it for ADHD and was wondering if there is any side effects like loss of appitite

JJ replied: "It is given at 400mg for weight loss. You might see some loss at 100mg, but at 400mg it is the same as a lot of the famous diet pills."

Am I over-medicated, the same physician practice prescribed all medications to be taken daily or as needed? My Medication List is as follows: Daily: seroquel, asmanex,Prevacid, adderall, HCTZ (blood pressure), bupropion, and citalopram As needed:maxalt mlt, tramadol, propoxyphene, and loratadine. I have been diagnosed bi-polar and depressed, ADHD, asthma, GERD, have been in 3 car accidents, and migraines. Any insights would be helpful. Thanks

Ararodiel replied: "You may want to get a second opinion, or talk to some specialists in the areas in which you've been diagnosed. I'm not saying you are over-medicated, but that it is good to be cautious and aware of side effects or interactions. Additionally, there are some physicians out there who rely so much on medication that they lose sight of actually helping patients."

What ADD(Or ADHD) medications cause sexual dysfunction? Or can effect the sex drive? I've taken many of these. I've been on so many medications, and I've taken each one for so long. I've noticed my sex drive isn't really strong at all. And Im a guy(Im only 18), Sometimes I dont feel aroused at all, or I dont get turned on enough for an erection. Although recently I was prescribed Bupropion(Which makes me feeell soooo goood =] ) , Can that effect me in the future? Do any of these prescriptions effect me? I have been on Ritalin, Stratera(Hah Worse shit ever made, made me depressed[Suit Ice Dale] , Adderal [Made me tweaked out, i lost 45 pounds, and definetly caused ED], Concerta, and last Wellbutrin(Bupropion). Honestly I dont know what to do. Or what it is.. or was.

Searcher replied: "there are drug literature sheets produced by the manugfacturers that state what side effects may occur in some people taking the medication. As these are public record now-a-days do some searching and read the information to see what effects the drugs you have taken and are taking might hav eon you. remember though that not all people will experience side effects."

hmmm need some help maybe replied: "when you get the meds ask the doc what effects they will have. or go in n see him and ask. some guys just dont feel like it as much some times. your body might be saying hey lets slow down and get use to this med 1st"

Melody S replied: "you poor thing.do you have to take all those drugs? yes they all effect you.. i have taken dex and i got addicted to it,i lost so much weight i was so happy...then after a while i felt so down and sick all the time.i just dont know how kids can stomach it....."

What could help me concentrate more? Recently i am on bupropion (Wellbutrin) and it help me slightly. What other medication should I ask my doctor about? I don't have ADD or ADHD, just need something for concentration.

binghamv2003 replied: "How recently did you go on the Wellbutrin? It takes awhile for the level in your system to reach full effectiveness. If it has been longer than 4-5 weeks, it may be time to have your doctor check your dosage."

MeliseR replied: "You may want to check the dosage or talk to your doctor or psychiatrist about other possible medications. Are you sleeping? That will have something to do with your concentration if you are not. Also, if you've been diagnosed with an anxiety or other disorder. Many times, meds are given on a test basis which means that the doc is trying them out to see how your system will react. Give it some time."

Thomas Meyer replied: "Dont bother with meds... very harmful.. try natural alternatives. focus fast worked well for me"

Weight loss & insomnia from WELLBUTRIN: anyone else? This is kind of a moot point, since I already went off Wellbutrin (bupropion), but I was curious if anyone else is as sensitive to this as I am? My psychiatrist suggested I try it for my ADHD, since he feels I also have co-morbidities of mild anxiety and depression, and Wellbutrin is recommended for all these (altho it's not a first-choice for ADHD alone). I started with 37.5 mg. for 2 weeks (split pill), then 75 mg for about 2 months. My psych said this is considered a VERY LOW dose; folks often take 150 to 250 mg. daily or even more. Well, even 75 mg. was too much. Despite taking it w/ breakfast, it stuck with me so much that I got "delayed sleep onset". I used to feel sleepy for bedtime by 11p.m., but on Wellbutrin I wasn't sleepy until midnight or 1 a.m.! NOT good when you have to be up early for work! :( I also lost weight, despite eating all the time. I have a naturally fast metabolism and am slim as it is; I felt the extra weight loss was unhealthy & my Dr. agreed. P.S. I ran out of room in the template above. I just wanted to see how common weight loss and/or delayed sleep onset/insomnia is for folks on Wellbutrin. What was your dosage? And did you have to quit taking it because of this? :( As for me, I'm now going to try Strattera, which like Wellbutrin is NOT a stimulant, but *is* a type of "psychostimulant" like Wellbutrin is -- at least that's how I think I understood my Dr.'s explanation. I just hope I don't have a return of the weight loss or insomnia! :( If you have experience with Strattera, I'd be eager to hear about that too. Thanks and happy holidays! :)

John H replied: "i havent had weight loss from it, but insomnia, yes. i wish i had weight loss! i'm still trying to get rid of the weight i gained on lexapro!"

ragtad replied: "I take 300mg of Wellbutrin a day. I have lost about 14 pounds since I started in Oct. I have only recently started having problems with insominia since I switched Atavan for Lexapro. I don't think my weight loss is much of a concern for me. I do need sleep though. But for me I am not willing to give up on the Wellbutrin, I has helped me way to much."

wolves_are_not_bad replied: "Before I took wellbutrin, (I am taking 100mg twice a day), I took strattera. With that medication I suffered insomnia. Now that I am taking Wellbutrin I do not suffer insomnia but I have lost about ten pounds, (I think) and I am wondering why your experience is so different from mine(?). Maybe you (or I) should ask someone else. but all I can say is that weight loss with this medication can't be TOO uncommon because it happened to me as well as you."

dipu replied: "Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be cured. I found the information at useful for getting sleep."

mentalzan2 replied: "i take wellbutrin insomnia yes.i wish for the weight loss i gained from seroquel.and i take 300mgs of wellbutrin.i take the wellbutrin in am that seems to solve most of it for me.no experince on the other one. hope the new med helps.merry christmas."

I'm very curious on what my pills for my Disorders and Phobias can do for my body.? I Suffer from Multiple Disorders and Phobias and I'm curious wat risks can my pills can do for my body. These are my Minor Disorders and Phobias: 1. Amnesia (Due to Stimulus Thoughts; ADHD) 2. Claustrophobia 3. Tourette Syndrome (Due to Uncontrollable Rage; Intermittent Explosive Disorder) These are my SEVERE Disorders and Phobias which my Doctor Magnifies: 4. Bi-polar Dis. 5. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder(ADHD) 6. Intermittent Explosive Disorder 7. Obsession Compulsive Disorder (OCD) 8. Panic Disorder (Panic Attacks) 9. Social Phobia 10. Insomnia (Due to Stimulus Thoughts) I'm Taking these pills and I want to know what they do, what Disorder or Phobia it's having an effect on, what risks I'm taking, and what are the side effects: Clonazepam - 0.5 MG Geodon - 80 MG Bupropion SR - 200 MG Amitriptyline - 25 MG Ambien CR - 12.5 MG Adderall XR - 30 MG (I'm really curious about this pill cause this is new to me because my Doctor just Prescribed a New ADHD pill for me after concerta and vyvanse) I've been taking everything except Adderall XR for 3 Years and I didn't do much research about my pills, some have been switch with MG and pills and I need a good source that can give me good detail about my pills. So far I've Taken some Medicine that has affected me to some degree and I got off it like: Zoloft; (I got a Urinal Tract Infection and went to the Hospital and they stuck something up my pee hole and I had to carry a bag in my leg that was attached to my bladder for a whole weekend, oh boy this is embarrassing) Lamictal; (My Brain got mini seizures and I kept hearing "BZZT" noises in my Head) Depakote; (I could literally feel my organs, I can't say much but I think I felt my liver, not really sure but I felt a squeezing pain above my stomach in the right side) Concerta; (I lost a TON of pounds and muscle which I regret so I asked my Doctor to prescrib me something else and he prescribed me vyvanse and me being a dumbass didn't tell him I was losing muscle and weight and he prescribed me now Adderall XR I hope this one does the trick for my ADHD) I get my Blood Tested every 6 months and I recently got my Results and I'm as healthy as the next guy now (Thank God) So I'm kinda scared Adderall will have a Major effect like Concerta If I'm in the wrong section of yahoo please direct me to the right one. PS. You don't have to write me a whole summary I will give anyone a thumbs up if you put effort and thought in your opinions and sources.

♥*QuEeN_MeEeG*♥ replied: "Well I have worked in a hospital pharmacy for 7 years so I know what drugs your talkin bout. I think the very best thing to do is speak to your pharmacists were you get your prescriptions from. As you know the ambien is to sleep and will make you fall asleep fast and the amitript. Is for depression or a mood in hancer. Clonazepam will relax you. Geodon is to help with your other issues. As for the addreall it will make you concentrate like crazy. Lots of people abuse this drug for the speed effect it has. I'm sure the harm to your body is very minimal compared to the benefit. Sometimes it takes a long time to get a right combo. I'm sure every thing will turn out fine for you. Also go to webmd.com or google each drug for a list of side effects and more info. ♥"

Wow, I love Xanax and Temazepam :)? I feel so chilled out, I came home anxious as hell, but took 70 mg of Temazepam and 4 mg of Xanax, I'm also on Luvox 300 mg (150 - 2xday), man do I feel chilled out. I got a lot of Xanax, but Temazepam I think is the stuff. I was stressed like hell, now I'm so mellow. You should try it, only if you come home like you've come home from war (Iike me today) I have SEVERE anxiety. Ah well, just chill bothers. Oh, can taking 300mg (2x150SR) of bupropion hinder my OCD progress? Thank you... please help, my life is a nightmare, i'm a young man with no friends, no i'm not a basement kid on my computer, i go to therapy once a week and left therpapy too long... so the bupropion question.... please? i am also out to temazepam. :) This is so much better than dexamphetamine i was prescribed for comorbid adhd, i hate it, i just want to feel mellllow. :) please help guys, my next app. is in a month with p-doc :))

†Proverbs 31 woman†™ replied: "I just said a prayer for you right now. Hopefully you can deal with your problems through therapy and get off the medication. You do NOT need drugs to feel 'mellow'...you need therapy more than once a month. Check into going once a week. Find other things to occupy your time also. Go for a walk, pet a dog, smell a flower, go to the coffee shop and people watch, go the park and swing on the swing, take a hike, etc. and I guarantee you will feel a thousand times better. God bless you and I do hope you can find inner peace and heal."

I'm quitting my meds cold turkey, what should I expect? I'm signing up for the Marines, but they won't let me sign until I am off my meds. My doctor reduced my dosage from 300mg to 150mg a month ago, but now I'm getting impatient because I need to get my life and order, so I decided to just stop taking it. I've been feeling more aggressive since I've been taking less, but I have always felt too docile on the meds, so I'm thinking that now I'm just returning to normal. I take the medicine for ADHD and depression. I don't feel suicidal and never ever have, so I'm not worried about that. I just want to know if I should be expecting any physical effects alongside psychological effects. Withdrawal symptoms? Like what? Also, is it possible that my sex drive will increase being off the meds? The medicine is Bupropion BTW. I'm on 150mg and I stopped taking it altogether this morning.

Ally replied: "I went cold turkey thinking it would be fine... I tried to kill myself a week later.. but I suppose everyone is different.. Good luck with the Marines x"

yikes_its_a_humdinger replied: "You aren't being very truthful. I'll bet you've thought about suicide. Usually people are on meds for a reason. So stopping meds so you can have a gun isn't such a smart idea."

Sticks replied: "Ha... in Boot the food you get, has a drug that decreases sex drive. You're going to be showering with your entire squad bay group.. so don't worry about that, unless you're gay. You should be fine, you're going to obviously be handling a real, working, M-16... and you're going to get pissed; so if you don't take getting shit on too well and realize you have a gun, you might want to hold off. But like I said, you don't sound anything like that - you should be fine. Good luck, my brother graduated last year from Parris Island... quite the experience just visiting, I soon will be joining."

NonStopGob replied: "Hi. My best advice is DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY! Your best course of action is to talk to your doctor. Some medicine, particularly behavioral meds, need to be reduced gradually to avoid other more serious complications. I am presently on medication. Last summer, I stopped taking them suddenly and went through severe withdrawal. I was lucky I didn't have a heart attack and die. Stopping bupropion abruptly may result in discontinuation syndrome expressed as dystonia, irritability, anxiety, mania, headache, and aches and pains. If you're serious about joining the Marines, do it right. The Marines will still be there when you're ready."

bytchass replied: "Quitting your meds cold turkey can be very dangerous. Just because you have not felt suicidal before doesn't mean anything. There is always a first for everything, and unfortunately medication for depression can have some pretty horrific side affects if you don't slowly take yourself off of it. I tried taking myself off medication before for depression, and now I've got scars all up my arm because I wasn't ready and the side affects took a turn for the worst. I recommend it for nobody, including yourself. If you want to go away and make something of yourself, you've gotta be healthy first. You've got to make sure you are strong enough to even handle something like the marines. Hope you think about this. Goodluck."

BAH HUMBAG replied: "I quit cold turkey and was fine, felt the same as I had on them."

gorgeousgab replied: "Some people can just quit their meds and don't feel anything. It also all depends on not just how much you were taking but for how long you have been taking the medication as well. If its been for a long time, 6 months or more, than you could experience withdrawal effects, some people complain of electric shocks sensations, zaps in the brain, headaches, and rebound anxiety and depression. Which means your troubles with depression might return. You don't take buproprion for ADHD. its mostly for anxiety/depression. So yes, you are going to feel edgy and feel your old self come back possibly. Like I said, some people claim to not experience any side effects after going cold turkey, but some do."

How long until all these drugs leave my body, any permanent damage? 1. Dexamphetamine 30mg 2. Xanax (alprazolam) 2mg 3. Prinivil (lisinopril) 20mg 4. Temaze (Temazepam) 30mg 5. Buspar (Buspirone Hydrochloride) 30mg 6. Zyban (Bupropion Hydrochloride) 300mg I really can't be bothered explaining why I took all these drugs yesterday ... well I can. I’m a male in my early twenties diagnosed with anxiety, depression and ADHD disorders. After subsequent failure to treat me with Zoloft earlier this year (didn’t like the diminished libido, erectile dysfunction and genital sensory impairment) my doctor wanted to try this concoction - err, not all six - just Dexamphetamine which I had already been on for five months or so, and the newly added Buspar and Zyban for the anxiety and depression disorders. So I started them both at the same time, was on them for nine days in total - yesterday being the last. I began on Zyban 150mg and Buspar 15mg, I worked my way up as directed by 5mg every three days with the Buspar, but the Zyban I only put up to 300mg after seven days instead of the three days I was told. This is because of the immense anxiety it seemed to produce ... but I remained optimistic ... until yesterday. I had just polished off my last of the three daily dosing schedules which was 10mg of Dexamphetamine, 10mg of Buspar, and the second 150mg of Zyban. All four hours apart from about 7am, the Zyban is of course not included in the midday dose. About three hours pass and then ... Lying on my bed, I notice my heart beating hard, hard enough to notice my body moving back on forth on the bed. It wasn’t a rapid heart rate to begin with, just hard, and I had noticed this the day before too, probably since moving up to 300mg of Zyban. Then I took my blood pressure, about 100/170, not critical, but higher than my usual 83/133 or so. I would say based on the way I was feeling a little bit later, my blood pressure may have reached 120/200 - but I was in no condition to take my blood pressure then. I began shaking excessively, became very anxious, very nervous, and naturally very worried about my wellbeing. I walked outside, became lightheaded for a few moments, I recall my arm felt warm for a bit and pressure was mounting on my head. The most concerning symptom was the feeling of my heart thudding very hard up and down in my chest, putting my hand to chest I felt the thuds on the surface and then looking at my hands, they were shaking uncontrollably. I decided I wouldn’t call the ambulance or go to the hospital and figured they wouldn’t do much different than what I can do with the medicines available to me in the house. The first thing I did was go to my own cupboard and grabbed my bottle of Xanax (use as needed) for my tremendous anxiety and crunched up a 2mg bar in my mouth before washing it down with water (tastes horrible, unlike Temaze and Prinivil). I waited for what felt like 20 minutes with no change (long enough in my condition) and thought I’d better take care of my blood pressure and crunched up one of my fathers Prinivil tablets from the kitchen cupboard and took that down with water. My hands were still shaking tremendously and had to rip open the packet, I also noticed a popping sensation in my left ear and an acute onset of tinnitus. Then I thought I’d better address my risk of seizures and grabbed my bottle of Temaze (use as needed) from my cupboard and swished three tablets in my mouth with water and bit them up a bit before taking them down. I then tried to sit in a chair and calm down - it took perhaps another forty minutes before noticing that I’m getting better, that is my heart didn’t feel like it was going to thud out of my body anymore, then I went to my bed and lied down. I took my blood pressure not long thereafter and it was ok, about 90/100. I was ok for the following few hours, the only thing that didn’t go away was rapid heart rate, taking it manually (blood pressure unit is also a manual) by finger for ten seconds, it came in at about 120-130bpm, I imagine it must’ve been about 200bpm at its worst. I then had a desire for fatty foods, so went to the store and bought some cheese cake, frozen lasagna and coke. Cooked it up, ate it, and thought that I was better off just going to sleep before my desire to eat kicked in and wasn’t all that confident I would wake up in the morning (given my life’s problems I didn’t think it was ALL that bad). Well today, being alive, I obviously took nothing, my blood pressure this morning was good at about 80/130, but I still have tinnitus. I also recently noticed a pain in the right side of my stomach area ... looking at a diagram, I’d say it’s the small intestine or something in that area, got any idea what it is? Also have another two questions; How long till all this crap leaves my bloodstream completely so I can comfortably go back on my Dexamphetamine? How long until my tinnitus goes away, it’s not permanent is it? It’s not likely any permanent damage has been done, right?
