Diflucan Yeast Persistent
Diflucan Yeast Persistent in Answers
Anyone alergic to diflucan and have persistent recurring resistant yeast infections and oral thrush? Helppppppp pleaseeeee........ Have an allergy to diflucan, face breaks out in a rash and throat swells. I'm on steroids for adrenal insufficiency and inhaled steroids for asthma. On top of the basically normal monthly yeast infection (no rude comments) I've had oral thrush for months and months. Nystatin helped but didn't get rid of it Amo B mouth washes (custom made) didn't help... Finally doctors argued with me it wasn't a fungal infection. Well i begged a doctor to culture it after months of it and well it is a fungus.. Now trying mycelex (sorry can't spell) i've used them before, and had no reaction, but up till december i had no reaction to diflucan. I know there is a chance of an allergy but don't know what else to do. Yogurt, probiotics make my stomach hurt like no tomorrow, garlic doesn't help. regular mouth washes, peroxide diluted mouth washes do nothing, cleaning tounge leaves it too painful to even talk or eat. I'm soooooooooooo in dire need of help doctors are even clueles
Thanks to any helpful advice... anyone out there allergic to diflucan, severe actual allergies not just bad reactions.... It's a rare allergy, but i am the unusal case in almost everything. i'm also alergic to codiene, loratab (vicodin), amoxicillin, spivara (all sent me to ER)..
Yen replied: "i was getting monthly yeast infections and was tired of getting over the counter medicine because they stopped working.
I started douching with two little caps of hydrogen peroxide with two cups of water for like five days, yeast infection is gone. Make sure the hydrogen peroxide only has distilled water and peroxide no other ingredients. a bottle of hydrogen peroxide should not cost more than a dollar.
Ohh and I had a pap soon after and got a test for yeast infection and it came out clear. my ph balance was excellent too.
it seems that your immune system might be low, try to take some vitamin supplements and keep eating yogurt even if your stomach hurts, what do you prefer white toungue or stomach pain?"
Anybody ever have persistent yeast infection? What cured it? Has anbody here been diagnosed with a persistent yeast infection? I.e. one that does not go away even with a 5 pack of Diflucan and RX strength yeast creams? I had one of over a year and it went away 3 years ago but I have another one that also wont quit and I want to see what may be new in addressing this. If it has happened to you, what did your OBGYN do to fix it? If you are a medical professional, what treatments are best or what should I do (refrain from saying "see your doctor, thats part of my problem Im not sure he is using the best methods)? What options are out there for me to talk to my doctor about? PS, I don't want to overdo the Diflucan becaue I know its not good for the liver. Thanks!
PS, no I dont have an underlying medical cause fueling the yeast infectoin. I know persistent yeast infection could be a sign of HIV or Diabetes, but in my case its not - thats been ruled out. Thanks again!
JQ replied: "Your partner may be passing the yeast infection back to you. he should go to the MD and be checked too. If you aren't comfortable with your MD, switch to a new one - it's your prerogative"
Stephanie Y replied: "hey go to the dollar store and get some Epsom salt pour it in warm bath water and soak in it do that for about 2 weeks twice daily don't bath without it because water keeps a yeast infection alive. if that don't work go back to dollar general and get Miconazole 7 read directions and use for about 1 week right before bed. and if these don't work go to a gynecologist. hey you may be a diabetic so talk to your doctor about getting tested"
sweetness #1 replied: "HI EVP,
maybe what you may think is a yeast infection is really a bacterial infection in which case a course of antibiotics would be recommended.
same thing happened to me and i finally went to be seen by my doc and that's what he prescribed for me.
goood luck"
AMBER D replied: "your ph levels might be too low. Every night, after taking a shower, apply natural yogurt to the affected area for 30 minutes. Wash with warm water and dry thoroughly, with a clean towel every time.
Cut back on sugars, dairy and drink lots of lemonade.
Cranberry juice also helps balancing your skin's ph.
All this can help you, but you need to be sure it's just a yeast infection and not something else besides that, like monillia, which sometimes goes undetected and mimics the yeast infection's symptoms.
There's a variety of foods that can also help you, like
Fish and poultry
Flax seed (Linseed)
Whole grains
Organically raised foods where possible.
Other essential fatty acids, such as olive oil and nuts
Plenty of fresh water
1 tablespoon Psyllium seed husk fiber and/or 6 to 8 tablespoons flax seed meal and/or ¼ cup Oat bran daily
Avoid:
Alcohol
Animal fats
Caffeine
Dairy products
Fast foods
Hydrogenated oils and margarine
Processed foods
Junk foods
Sugar
White flour products
And what helps a lot also is using boric acid suppositories, used vaginally for 3-5 nights.
Hope it helps!"
be happier own a pitbull replied: "Experts now recommend vaginal boric acid capsules as a treatment option for vaginal yeast infection, particularly infections that can't be cured by prescription or nonprescription antifungal yeast infection medications.2, 6 Boric acid is a white, crystalline chemical substance that has antifungal and antiviral properties. It is used in various pharmaceutical products and is also available without a prescription.
Clotrimazole vaginal suppositories, 500 mg, once a week
Boric acid vaginal capsules, 600 mg, twice a week.1, 4 Boric acid can kill types of yeast that can't be cured by azole antifungal medications.4
Fluconazole, 100 to 150 mg, orally once a week
Itraconazole, 400 mg, orally once a month or 100 mg, orally once a day
Ketoconazole, 100 mg, orally once a day. Ketoconazole is associated with a rare but serious type of hepatitis. For this reason, it is not often used as treatment for vaginal yeast infections.5
All this was taken from it got some great articles on yeast infections and chronic yeast infections. Some of the medication I listed had be prescribed some of it didn't. For non-prescription medication read lable carefully and consult your doctor before using."
ivillage4women replied: "Well, I'm glad that underlying medical conditions (such as diabetes) have been ruled out as a possible cause of your persistent yeast infections. Since the over-the-counter medications aren't doing it, have you tried these tips?
1) Wear loose-fitting undergarments made of breathable material
2) Do not stay in wet clothing (i.e., bathing suits)
3) Avoid using vaginal sprays, deodorants or chemicals
(including deodorant tampons!)
In addition, it's possible that certain preventive medicines or foods may help. For example, eating yogurt with with live Lactobacillus acidophilus cultures has been shown to prevent recurrent infections. You could also try boric acid capsules or vaginal suppositories.
Note that yeast infections are caused by an overabundance of candida, a microscopic fungus, and are extremely common. In fact, 3 out of 4 women experience yeast infections. In most cases, the infection will disappear within 2 weeks by using the anti-fungal creams that you can get at your local pharmacy. However, for those more persistent (and annoying!) infections, it is important to get advice from your doctor on how best to treat them.
One other factor that you might want to consider - are you taking birth control pills and/or antibiotics? If so, it's possible that you may want to discontinue use (under advice from your doctor), as such medications often have yeast infections as a possible side effect. If you are not happy with your doctor's advice, don't be afraid to get a second opinion!

Best of luck!"
Cheryl T replied: "Your partner is infecting you again and agian, get him checked out. Especially if he isn't circumcised. Try some Nilstat Cream that will work wonders."
Yeast infection after taking Diflucan? I had a yeast infection for which I was prescribed Diflucan. The itch and burning cleared up but there is still a persistent discharge. I have another refill for the Diflucan, should I take it? Its definitely not an std.
mmmmhm replied: "Did your doctor tell you to take it until it cleared up?
If not, you might want to just phone him/her and ask if it would be okay to take another one since the symptoms haven't cleared up yet."
Quinn replied: "Try some other form of yeast infection cure,"
CecaHoney replied: "Are you sure it's because of Diflucan? You should go to your doctor and ask. Don't make any decisions before you ask your doctor."
Brenna replied: "Go ahead and take the second diflucan sometimes it takes more than one, then again sometimes a yeast infection will get worse before it gets better, I would take the second wait three days if still having trouble go see Doc, I think everything will be fine though"
babyk0016 replied: "yes that's the reason your doctor gave you a second dose sometimes it needs another dose to get rid of completely"
VERY persistent yeast infection!!!? I've been battling a persistent yeast AND bacterial infection for 6 months now. Started with bactieral infection...been treating that, and about 2 months ago got a yeast infection on top of it! So, now i've had both for about 2 months. My doc and I have tried EVERYTHING!! Oral meds, antifungal creams, metrogel, relaguard, etc. I've been takign acidopholus (sp?) for about 5 weeks now. Just went back to the doc today, and still have BOTH infections. She has decided the next step to try metrogel twice a day for 2 weeks (previously, it had been once/day for 2 weeks, and then twice a day for 1 week), and diflucan twice a day for 2 weeks (i have not tried diflucan yet). continue acidopholus.
She also wants me to pretty much eliminate sugar and white starches from my diet. This is my main question. What does this include? Obviously no white bread, whtie rice or potatos. No "real" sugar (i.e. in dessert). What aobut artificial sweeteners ? What about fruit? Oatmeal? HELP! other advice??
David B replied: "my wife battles this constantly. The diflucan should do it, in the short term. Consider treating your significant other too, as a possible carrier."
jbj2000 replied: "You can probably have fresh fruit. Eat Yogurt it helps to maintain you pH balance. I might also try seeing a different doctor. If it is this bad then something else must be wrong. 6 months is a long time. and being on antibiotics and such for that long is harmful to your body. It will also make it hard to treat future illnesses and infections with antibiotics."
hypergal1942 replied: "If you are taking antibiotics for bacterial infection your dr. should know that antibiotics can give you a yeast infection. As for diflucan it is a good medication will clear you up in about a week if not then I think you need to see a specialist on the subject because you will spend more money guessing in weeks that a specialist can clear up for certainty and you will know where you stand on the subject"
Jelly Fish replied: "Are you under stress? Stress affects your body in many ways. Eat salad and no sugar. Cleanse your body by drinking a lot of water."
bmac replied: "Have you been tested for diabetes? Persistent yeast infections are a major symptom. Caused by way too much sugar in your body. If you haven't been tested, you should."
alyce g replied: "no oatmeal, sweeteners are okay. fruit is probably okay, in small doses. Keep to veggies and protien lik elean chicken or beef for a while. Its borring, but ya gotta get this under control."
fisherwoman replied: "Your partner needs treatment as well, that may be why it keeps cycling back. I don't know about eliminating sugars from your diet, I would think this is a hormonal situation, I would seek care with a different doc myself."
burnished_dragon replied: "Try this book - it might help you understand what has sugars and starches and understand the yeast infection more It's called Yeast Connection Handbook by William Crook. If I remember right there was a cookbook as well
Another thing you may want to try is a detox especially for Candida
I see on this page in the source that there are a few more books on the subject you may want to try them as well."
babyj248 replied: "well, part of the problem is probably that your man is carrying this bacteria, and yeast that is giving you BV and the yeast infections. He should go to his doctor and get a prescription of flagyl. Have you tried this anti fungal pill (flagyl)? I had this same problem for quite a while and finally got it under control with flagyl and acidophilus, and having my husband treated. There are also many different types of yeast and my doc said that some medicines do not cure all types of yeast infections. I would say to have fruit in moderation and probably no oatmeal. Artificial sweeteners are probably OK. This just seems like a weird thing to do. Consider changing doctors. And of course no douching, bubble baths and make sure you change your tampon every four hours, make sure you are wiping front to back and using mild soap. I found out finally that my problem was coming from my husband ejaculating inside of me. It throws off your PH in your vagina and in turn gives these bacterias an environment for rapid reproduction. Try eliminating that for a while until you get things under control. I personally HATE metrogel! Its nasty and gross and you cant have intercourse for a while unless you want a big mess. I'm a big fan of flagyl, it always worked for me. Good luck."
Pieternel replied: "The above answers are a lot of information. Two aspects I will mention here is
Your diet: Vegetables and proteins….No cheeses as possible and sure no pasta, white rice and sugar. Avoid artificial sweeteners as they do not help your immune system. Most grains convert in sugar It is kind of bare diet. I would start with sugar white bread and pasta. That is already a lot
Treat your vagina with garlic and yoghurt or kefir. Some people think it is disgusting but it works. Also keep going with your acidophilus and or kefir. Be sure you have a good quality and it should be in the fridge. Take Oil of Oregano by mouth for at least 6 weeks and recheck yourself with the spit test. Oil of Oregano is anti bacterial anti viral/ anti yeast/ fungal remedy….amazing. It is a long process but it will increase your health and immune system on the long run."
Have a friend who tested positive for a yeast infection of lungs. Should he take diflucan? His culture grew 100 colonies of yest, but they did not specify if it was candida. Why does someone get a yeast infection fo the lungs? He has had persistent coughand sinus trouble for weeks. No fever....
Fireant replied: "Yeast are hungry little microbes that thrive in warm, damp areas. Lungs are warm and damp. Usually yeast prevail when something happens to the "good" bacteria in the body that "eat" the yeast. He needs to ask his Physician what could have caused the problem, but I feel it had something to do with the "sinus" problems. Which may have been a virus.
Did they not give him any medication when they told him he had a yeast infection? If they didn't, he needs to call his doctors office and ask if they are going to give him medication, if they say no, then he needs to ask them to explain why. They may let it run it's course, but they should explain this to your friend. Tell your friend to be firm and demand answers. The doctor and his office should be glad to answer all your friends questions, if not, then your friend should find another doctor."
RPrincess replied: "Yes it treats yeast in general, it doesn't matter where its growing."
