Does the drug celexa help with depression and PTSD and will it replace valium? The VA has given me celexa for depression and PTSD. The Dr said if it take this I wont need valium. The VA doesnt give out new drugs , Is celexa a good drug and what are the new ones?

ckm1956 replied: "Celexa is an antidepressant that also works well on anxiety. It wakes 2-4 weeks to work. You may not need the valium. Celexa helps anxiety long term. Valium works for break-through anxiety, if any. Don't worry about "new drugs". So far, the old ones work well for most people."

Can someone share their experiences with taking the drug celexa? Are there any dangers I don't know about? Please share I want to hear your responses.

Rwebgirl replied: "Read the precautions. I didn't like it. I just seemed to keep me up at night. GL!"

ive recently been put on the drug celexa for my anxiety but im reading online that it causes weight gain? part of my anxiety stems from being a little over weight i cant be taken a drug thats just gonna make me gain more please real answers how true is this is it just talk or is this fact if u have details please.

ambertmbg1 replied: "My husband has been taking it for about 2 1/2 years and has remained the same weight. He was a pretty big guy to begin with (6", 275) but his pants size hasn't changed or anything. And neither have his eating habits. If you need the anti-depressant, take it. If you start to gain obscene amounts of weight talk to the doctor about a different drug. My hubby has had good luck with the celexa."

BRENDA B replied: "I was on Celexa for a while and I did gain weight but everyone is different. I wasn't an active person when on the medication and probably wouldn't have gained it if I were. The important thing is that you get well and if Celexa works for you then you can deal with the weight gain, if any, later."

☺☻☺☻☺☻☺☻☺☻ replied: "Everyone is different... I was told that Welbutrin XL causes wight loss and that hasn't happened! Every person is different and you won't know what happens to you until you are on it for a while... Sorry there are no hard answers but you are a biological organism and what helps one person may kill another... You don't know how you will react unitl it happens to you."

Is Celexa a drug that once you take you will never stop? Seems like all the comments on here about Celexa is that is a long term drug and not just to be taken for a few months. It sounds like going off of Celexa is not easy. Is Celexa a dependent drug?

fifty replied: "No. It is not. My opinion is that it is easy to taper off. Just talk with your doctor about how she/he recommends a patient taper off of Celexa. There may be additional information on this process on the Internet. Some people on here have stated some difficulties tapering off of some medications (Effexor), but I haven't seen anything about Celexa."

christibro40 replied: "I took it for awhile. a few months, discontinued it when the dr and I felt I no longer needed it, and I had no problems. However that was me. You did not mention what you are being treated for, or at what dose. It is not a medication I would just stop taking, but along with your dr, it is possible if you both find that it has done its job, that you can be weaned off it safely, and go on and live a normal happy life. JUST DONT STOP COLD TURKEY"

Celexa... Where Can you buy Celexa online? Buy Celexa on line without a prescription? Celexa drug? I heard you can Buy Celexa and all of the other Prescription Drugs like Viagra and Pain Medication Soma, Tramadol at online pharmacies even without a prior prescription. Can this be? Has anyone bought any drugs from any of these buy on line pharmacy and which one works best? What would you buy Lexapro vs Celexa?

laura d replied: "no you cant i get celexa from my doc."

kiwi replied: "You cannot get Celexa without a perscription. Mental process affecting drugs MUST be purchased through prescription because if it is taken in the wrong way or the wrong dose or for the WRONG thing, it permanently screws up your brain. Pain killers that are stronger than Extra strength tylenol, and contain medically regulated drugs must be purchased through prescription. Morphine, for example, is highly addictive, and is therefore regulated through the rule that it can only be purchased with perscription. Viagra and similar drugs were originally developed to treat angina- a heart condition in which the blood vessels around the heart constrict, killing the heart muscle. The side effect of the drug is sexual, so that became the "main focus" of the drug. What the drug actually does is expand the blood vessels in your body, dropping your blood pressure. If too many are taken, too much is taken per dose or it is taken improperly, it can be fatal. If you require these types of medications, you also require a doctor to regulate it as is law. You cannot buy these without perscriptions. Hope this helps."

Can Celexa be detected in a blood or urine drug test? Can Celexa be detected in a typical blood or urine test that is being done for life insurance purposes? It is an SSRI and wonder if it shows up in routine drug tests, like a benzodiazepine would.

sokokl replied: "Not that I am aware of, but I would recommend checking with your pharmacist as well to see what they say."

Can the Anti-depressant drug,"Celexa"cause hair loss? I have been on this anti-depressant for 7 months. Since starting Celexa I have noticed a significant amount of hair loss and difference in hair texture. To the point where it's.... scary. I am only 27 years old. I have even bought hair, skin, nails vitamins, biotin, silica, etc. this has only helped a little. 2 years ago I was on the anti-depressant lexapro. I do not remember thinning of my hair or a change in the hair texture. Could the Celexa be causing my hair loss?

Kayleigh replied: "Many believe that those who suffer depression must face this new and potentially embarrassing side effect while having to deal with the initial problem. But, the truth of the matter is that people who suffer hair loss due to medication of this type are few and far between."

Michael X replied: "I'm sorry to hear this. I do not know sorry, I hate man-made drugs and vitamins tho so personally I would say that the pill is having some negative affect on you. It might not be hair loss but pills are messed up... I know bald 20 year olds, It happens to people. sorry ;("

ivette replied: "Among side effects of celexa there is skin rash or itching (hives). Shall the rash appear on the head so it can cause loss of hair."

Dr. Lisa Minalto replied: "yes! it is possible but anyway as we know hair loss can be caused by many different reasons! There are many causes of loss of hair such as stress, poor nutrition ,medications, thyroid dysfunctions, illness, fungal infections, hormonal problems, to mention a few. year ago I suffered very much from dandruff and hair loss too and I started trying everything you can imagine to stop my hair loss. the things that really worked for me was: 1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp; 2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The 'B' vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation; 3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage; 4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice(you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three); 5) also I used herbal treatment - Provillus (do not use Rogaine - it will not work!) It is a good products that helps prevent hair loss and contains Biotin and the clinically tested ingredients approved by the FDA to help re-grow your hair.! I think it is very important! It worked and still works for me! I do not know if any pharmacies carry Provillus but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here It enhances hair growth by blocking DHT (Dihydrotestostrone) - a major cause of hair loss! Also Informative video about Provillus - good luck! not only my own personal experience + working as a family physician"

Melanie V replied: "Medication induced hair loss is common. It usually begins 1-3 months after starting a medicine. Anytime to body perceives a change, disturbance or imbalance in which it has a difficult time adjusting to, the hair growth cycle can become disrupted causing more hairs than normal to retreat to the resting (telogen) phase where they will then be shed 1-3 months later. This is often a temporary response. If the body adjusts to the changes the hair growth cycle may repair itself. Medications can also cause hair loss by depleting or interfering with absorption of certain nutrients. Taking high quality nutritional supplements may help, along with highly nutritious diet. Essential oil scalp treatments can help stimulate new hair growth and improve the quality of your hair. I used essential oil scalp treatments for my own hair loss problem which became very severe. You can read about using essential oils for hair loss at the link below."

D.E Dave replied: "Hair loss is one of the less common side effects of celexa. Anyways, hair loss can be caused by various reasons. For some time, doctors have attributed hair loss to genetics. But some researchers has attributed this condition to other factors like poor circulation, acute illness, surgery, radiation, high fever, iron deficiency, diabetes, thyroid disease, chemotherapy, stress, poor diet, ringworm and other fungal infections Years ago I personally suffered very much from dandruff and hair loss too and started trying everything you can imagine to stop my hair loss. Below are the things that actually worked for me : 1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp. 2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Is Celexa a drug that should be taken long term. Does it affect memory? I have been taking Celexa for 3 yrs and i am having some problems with my memory and some moodiness and depression. I am looking for some help somewhere because my doctor said it is a good med and another dr. said that it will mix up your head and it shouldn't be taken for a long period of times so i am looking for a third opinion on here from someone.

snookieoo3 replied: "gosh, i was just put on that drug one month ago, i looked it up on the Internet to see what it was all about, it is for severe depression, i don't remember any of your side effects though, my doctor did tell me that it was not addictive, i will be very interested in seeing your answers, have a safe an good day!!"

Lisa A replied: "You should consult a doctor and not take lay people's opinions. Every one is different and reacts to meds different. Maybe something else is wrong?"

A.J. replied: "That drug is fairly new. It only got approved shortly before you started taking it. There are multiple patients who i've seen with this problem. most of them were switched over to Zoloft. I found a forum of people tracking side effects, maybe you are interested."
