what is the recommended dosage for ibuprofen and tylenol? i want to know the recommended daily dosage

Ben replied: "The recommended dosing for each should be listed on the bottle or box it came in, taking excessive amounts will lead to damage to your kidneys with ibuprofen and liver with tylenol. The maximum dosage before liver damage with tylenol is 4 grams a day (This comes out to 8 500mg tablets, or 2 every 6 hours). I'm not sure about max doses for ibuprofen though."

nerdorama replied: "ibuprofen for adults: 400–800 mg 3–4 times daily (not to exceed 3600 mg/day) For children ages 6 months - 12 years: 30–50 mg/kg/day in 3–4 divided doses (maximum dose: 2.4 g/day) Tylenol for adults: 325–650 mg every 4–6 hr or 1 g 3–4 times daily or 1300 mg every 8 hr (not to exceed 4 g/24 hr) Children ages 1-12: 10–15 mg/kg/dose every 4–6 hr as needed (not to exceed 5 doses/24 hr)"

Is it unhealthy to take 400-600mg of ibuprofen daily before I go to sleep? I wake up several times at night and the only thing that helps me stay asleep is taking 400-600mg of ibuprofen before i go to bed. I just want to know, since its a small dosage, is it still unsafe or unhealthy?

KneeKnee replied: "I do that all the time to help me sleep, I usually eat a slice of bread or some crackers so that it isnt' on an empty stomach. I have also taken half a Benadryl to help me sleep. Good luck."

Travis replied: "yes it is. too much ibuprofen will start to eat away at the lining in your stomach. i have talked to my doctor about this because i used to take ibuprofen alot also."

msc replied: "It's not a good idea to use this for going to sleep. The main reason is it is really bad for your stomach and it is a blood thinner as well. A sleep aid that is not habit forming is the best and that shouldn't be used for a period of time. If you use it all the time you will be conditioned to need it to sleep. Better sleep habits is your answer meaning no caffeine or sugar etc. Hope this helped."

Tiff replied: "talk to your doc there are other things that are a prescription to help you sleep and stay asleep you should look at the bottle and read the warning. medications will put a warning like not to exceed a certain dose daily and to only take if for a week or so because it can cause health problems TALK TO YOUR DOC. TO GET THE RIGHT ANSWER THAT WILL KEEP YOU SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Starry replied: "It is my opinion that taking ibuprofen for a long time is probably not a good idea. It would be better if you could sleep more soundly by getting some exercise during the day and eating at the right times. Warm milk contains melatonin which occurs naturally in the body and induces sleepiness. Also, I have found that the best sleep aid medication without dizzying effects, at least for me, is doxylamine succinate, which is found in Equate (Walmart) Sleep Aid Tablets, and probably other brands."

*Cara* replied: "Actually it IS bad for you. Too much Ibuprofen is really really bad for your kidneys. Find some other way to sleep. Change your diet, drink less caffeine, exercise. See a doctor if you have to."

I take the following prescriptions daily: Adderall, Paroxetine and Ibuprofen; can I also take Ginkoba? Female. I am 47 years old. Poor circulation, grossly obese with chronic endocrine problems. I also should be taking tramdol, blood pressure meds, GERD meds but have no insurance. Borderline diabetes 2. Previous eye surgeries for cataracts in both eyes with implant put in. Prescriptions I take currently and dosages are Adderall - 40 mg x 3 daily; Paroxetine - 20 mg x 2 daily; Ibuprofen - 800 mg x every 6 hours. Adderall taken for Narcolepsy. Paroxetine taken for depression. Ibuprofen taken for chonic pain and inflammation.

meme replied: "why would you want to take ginkoba? wtf?"

Jammooshka replied: "Surely any answer given on here you should ignore. Ask a pharmacist or a doctor or something!"

TweetyBird replied: "If you use ginkoba you run the risk of a drug interaction with one of the meds you take. I'm not sure why you mentioned what meds you should be taking or that you have no insurance. Is this relevant? I do know that ginkoba is not FDA approved and shouldn't be used for longer than 3 consecutive months and shouldn't be combined with NSAIDs. Ibuprofen is an NSAID. I suggest you speak to your pharmacist who is an excellent source of drug information."

rose j replied: "I would not try the ginkoba may cause hyperactivity and thats not to good for the endocrine problem"

Aspirin + Ibuprofen dosages? Hello. My wife, 32 years old suffers from MS and has quite severe chronic pain in her muscles, predominantly her legs but generally throughout her body. For the best part of a year she has taken: 4 Ibuprofen 200mg tabs, 4 times daily (3200mg per day) 4 Aspirin 300mg tabs, 4 times daily (4800mg per day) The pain relief has worked well and she has had no bleeding or adverse effects other than mild tinnitus. Today she told me that she has DOUBLED the above dosages over the last few days as they have been particularly bad. She has ups and downs, and the last few days have been about as bad as they get. Should I be worried? Are these dosages considered an overdose, or should they be okay short-term? Can anyone explain the long-term risks? Should I go over her head and call her doctor and explain what she's doing? Finally, the reason for the combined Aspirin and Ibuprofen medication is simply because she has had quite severe side-effects to most other medications that she has been tried with. Everyone realises that mixing the two isn't a good idea, but it's the best of a poor situation at the moment. Advice appreciated, Paul.

Mantling replied: "I would suggest that she talks to her Doctor and gets a referral to the Pain Control Unit at her local hospital, I am sorry to say that there is awaiting list as a rule for this, however the sooner she gets onto the list the better. I wonder if she has tried Acupuncture I know there are some who say it works and some who say it is a waste of time, I have had this and swear by it, again your Doctor could some one in his practise that does this it is worth asking. Hope all works out for your wife and yourself."

Dr Frank replied: "I am afraid aspirin and ibuprofen should never really be taken together. The allowed exception is the 75mg anti-platelet dose of aspirin and even here many authorities advise against."

Alissa replied: "No, that's way too much NSAIDS to be taking on a regular basis. She's going to ruin her kidneys. My sister has MS and I sympathize with her pain. However, she's going to put herself on the kidney transplant list if she keeps this up. There are safer long-term pain relievers that her doctor could be prescribing."

Supplement for ibuprofen? (at LEAST as strong).. I have been taking too much due to mouth surgery? I have been taking 3 tablets (600 mg) when i wake up, and 1000 mg along with e tylenol tablets at like 6:00, and 600 mg more when i go to bed.. That's 2200 mg of ibuprofen a day, almost doubling the recomended daily dosage, which is 1200. Google says to avoid taking over 2400 mg a day, but still, the more you take for the longer time frame, the more risk of infections, kidney problems, etc. (I have only been doing this for a week, but the pain seems to not be subsiding, so i want a supplement that doesn't need to get per scribed, due to the kidney problems and whatever else ibuprofen can cause with chronic use.) Keep in mind that 600 mg (3 pills) of ibuprofen makes it a little better than just tolerable.. It takes 1000 mg (2 extra strong tablets), and 2 tylenol tablets to make it 90% go away.

girlie replied: "If you are still in that much pain you need go back to the surgeon/dentist and get some pain medication. They can also look at the surgical site and see if there is a problem that might need to be addressed. Don't look for alternative meds until you have had the site looked at."

Safe Dosages of Ibuprofen and Acetominophen combined.? Taking prescription Vicoprophen 7.5 / 325 as well as Oxycodone 10 / 500. My question is: I am aware that the maximum dosage of Acetominophen is 4g daily to be safe. However, I also take the vicoprophen containing ibuprophen - I know this is a lot less toxic on the liver than the Acetominophen, but how much is it safe to take in a 24 hour period between the two? In case any need to know, I am a chronic pain patient with sacroilitis and serious compressions in L4 - L5 - S1, not a recreational abuser. Thanks in advance for your help.

bodmodangel replied: "You need to call your pharmacy. They can tell you."

nurseshasta replied: "I have chronic back pain too, so no judgment here... IBU can be toxic in other ares of your body. The maximum daily dose is 2400 mg for the average adult. That doesn't mean you should always take that amount. It can also be liver damaging, thin your blood out, increase the levels of other meds you're taking and increase your risk of stomach/intestine ulcers. Take it with food or a glass of milk. Good luck to you ;)"

Ibuprofen, long term? I know most of you aren't doctors, and I will be seeing my doctor in February (first available appt she had) but I had a question. For years now I've had intense back pain & headaches due to stress and Multiple Sclerosis. I was perscribed Ibuprofen 800mg three times daily. For a few years I did take it but stopped due to stomach problems. I was perscribed prilosec wich worked for my stomach and started using tylenol for the pain. After reading up on tylenol and it's effects of the liver I switched back to IBUprofen but at a lower dose. I take it once a day at 200mg which does the trick. I'm only 24 years old and I'm just nervous all these pain meds, even though not narcotics, that I am hurting my liver or kidneys. I've always only taken the lowest dosage of the meds, 500mg of tylenol daily or 200mg of motrin. Do you think my liver or kidneys are going to fail soon? Last blood tests came back perfect but that was over a year ago. Thanks.

MiMi Sugar replied: "Any medication has some eventual side effect. Some people faster then others. But you have to do what works for you. Just keep getting your blood work done on a regular basis and stop worrying. I am on a lot of drugs and have been for a long time.they keep me going and that is the important thing. Live your life the best you can! Comfort is important when you deal with a lot of pain! So don't worry about what might happen and enjoy each day!!! 57 and still going strong!!"

candy_smooch replied: "NO WORRIES!!! My hubby is very sick with chronic pain, and he is currently taking 12-15 Percocet a day. He has been taking percs for 2 years EVERYDAY and his liver is okay, but he is warned that the max dose he can take safely per day is 8 in order to keep his liver from failing. If he can take 8 a day without harming his liver on Percocet then you are perfectly fine taking your tylenol at one a day. I hope you feel better reading this."

Chuck H replied: "All of the drugs you mentioned have negative side effects and should not be taken long term and always at the lowest dose possible. You can usually find lots of info just by doing a search under the brand or chemical name. One of my favorite sites is WebMD. I suggest you sign up for their Multiple Sclerosis news letter. There is promising news about treatment coming out this year. In the mean time try a high protein diet, drink green tea, and eat lots of mustard and curry."

Would you go to work under these circumstances? I missed three days of work last week (first for personal reason, then got the flu) then today my primary care physician sent me to the ER and where I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and given antibiotics and an inhaler. The symptoms are: 1. Painfully sore throat 2. Coughing 3. Ear infection and pain 4. Throat spasms 5. No voice 6. Weak I am also taking the maximum daily dosage of both ibuprofen and acetaminophen, and cough suppressant/expectorant syrup. I don't want to miss too much work. What do you think? LadyLynn - Yes, I was given a note for work, but a nurse made a comment to me that made it clear she thought I was being wimpy. This made me feel really guilty - especially after last week. My concern is, I know the stress of this ongoing personal problem lowered my immune system which helped me get the flu, then the flu caused me to develop this secondary infection. If I don't stop this chain of events I will probably get something else. And the pain is pretty bad - barely controlled with all the pain reliever I can take. Plus I am coughing quite a bit, which my coworkers won't like.

Donna replied: "I think your boss would rather you stay home and NOT get others sick. I hope you feel better."

noncomputerwiz replied: "If I were your boss I would tell you to stay home. And if that was my boss he would do the same.(Tell me to stay home)"

fergie replied: "I know you feel like you should go to work since you've already missed several days, but you need to stay at home, get some rest and get over this. You would feel like crap at work anyway, and probably wouldn't be able to concentrate on what you were doing because you feel so bad. Did you get a doctor's note from the ER? If not, maybe you should get one so that your boss will know that you are truly sick and shouldn't come to work. Good Luck"

LadyLynn replied: "Did the doctor say to stay home because you're contagious? If you feel well enough to go work, go. Then come right home and rest. But you sound pretty sick.... If you feel like crap, stay home. Tell your boss everything you told us, especially that your doctor sent you to the ER, you have a bacterial infection and are on antibiotics and a bunch of other meds. Bless you and get well soon! :)"

David C replied: "You don't want to go in and give these bugs to anyone else."

Tara replied: "The nurse was a jerk for get what she said that was completely wrong and out of place for her to say that. They will just send you home if you go to work like that, and everyone else will get sick, and they will blame you. You have the letter. Stay at home sweetie you need the rest. Feel Better Soon!! Best Wishes & Be Well :) I hope you have someone to make chicken soup for you."

Ollie replied: "Hi sorry about your wife. You need to go & ask your doctor.Any medicine in large doses can be dangerous."

Sosgez of the potato people replied: "That sounds like a hell of a lot to me. I'd be surprised if she didn't bleed, or get kidney failure. Its bad enough for one day, let alone as regular dose."

keni replied: "Hi Paul Sorry about your wife's problems you can get aspirin which is coated so that it bypasses the stomach, so avoiding the stomach bleeding issue I don't think she should be taking large quantities of over-the-counter painkillers. something prescribed or administered by a doctor may be better One problem might be that some painful areas are not well served by circulating blood, so swallowed pain killers don't get there. How about a rub-on like Friction Foucard or red Tiger Balm? They won't do any harm and may help. -Ken"

Dr Frank replied: "I am afraid aspirin and ibuprofen should never really be taken together. The allowed exception is the 75mg anti-platelet dose of aspirin and even here many authorities advise against."

Bren replied: "aspirin and ibuprofen should not be taken together as they are similar medicines and can both cause internal bleeding/ulcers. paracetamol can be taken with either of them. the dosages are way too high and if the recommended dose of an over the counter painkiller is not working yr wife should ask her doctor to prescribe something stronger that will work. if she wont see the doctor herself maybe u should consider consulting him/her yrself to advise she is overdosing in this way."

i suck at these converting problems...does any one know an easy way for these problems? part A : A patient needs to take 875 of ibuprofen twice daily. The pills in the bottle are each 250. . How many pills does the patient need to take each time she wants the 875 dosage? Assume that these pills are scored and can be cut in half if necessary. part B : A bottle contains 525 of insulin at a concentration of 40.0 . What is the total mass of insulin in the bottle? part C : If you are administering an insulin dose of 90.0 from a bottle at a concentration of 40.0 , how many milliliters of the solution do you need to give the patient for an accurate dose? i didnt ask for the answer..im askn for an easy or an understanding way to solve them if it was in the back of the book i wouldnt be askn for help...smart a s s

Larry replied: "If i give you the answers you will always suck at these kind of questions."

bobinstien420 replied: "here is a simple way to do those problems ..................check the back of the book."

caramelflava313 replied: "Part A: 3 and a half pills don't know the rest"

Michelle S replied: "You need to say whether the measurements are in grams or ml or whatever...otherwise it gets very confusing, especially for Part C. With that said... Part A) 875 * (1 pill/250) = 3.5 pills Part B) 525 * (1 pill/.40) = 210 >>40%/100%=.40<< Because you didn't include measurements, I'm not sure how to do Part C."
