Perscribed 1/2 dose of Lexapro two years ago and it made me tired all the time...? I have high anxiety again and am considering going back on it for a short while but I work now and cannot sleep so much. Do you think taking 1/4 dose this time will be better for me? I'll ask my doctor but I was wondering if any of you experienced the same.

Monica Breeanne replied: "I am prescribed 40 mg of lexapro a day for depression, and general anxiety disorder. it makes me hyper. my advice to you is to take it right at bed time or switch to another anti-anxiety, or anti-depressant"

daeve930 replied: "Lexapro didn't do anything at all for me. Prozac was much better, until capsules starting giving me hearburn. I take Welbutrin now and it's better. You may have to try a couple different things until you find the right one. Talk to your doctor about what to take. These kind of pills are more for depression than anxiety. Alprazolam or Xanax is for anxiety."

JackAttack3 replied: "They are other forms of meds for high anxiety, if Lexapro is affecting your ability to stay awake, but you feel you need meds, then I suggest you speak to a doctor, about trying other kinds. However be careful while trying new meds because there are too many serious bad side effects that can occur, if you feel at any time that a drug is hurting you more than helping you, quit using it at once."

Loveisthemovement10 replied: "I am on 20 mg a day for depression, it doesn't seem to make me tired, but it all depends on you, it makes me have ups and downs, and Im considering changing medication, and i think you should look at some other medication too because you aren't suppose to feel tired when on it."

raw4healing replied: "You probably won't like what I suggest. I suggest you detox your body with a fresh organic juice feast (yes, feast not fast - see) and clean the toxins out of your body. If you eat a lot of fast food, soda, junk food, packaged, processed, GMO and MSG food with man made toxic chemicals, then that is why you are experiencing depression. You body was not meant to handle so much un-natural stuff. I have eliminated 30 different health issues just by simply changing my diet - lost weight and got off Rx drugs... have more energy than a 25 year old... at the age of 54. Do the research and learn how to protect your health naturally. Stop eating animal products, they are all laced with chemicals our bodies were never designed to absorb, overtaxing our liver, kidneys, etc. When you start putting ONLY nutritional organic food in your mouth, you will not need any Rx drugs - you will begin to have more energy, and joy for living. Your brain will clear up (MSG is literally in EVERYTHING under different names - Google MSG and related names- and is an excitoxin and affects your moods and mental clarity.) Seek out a natural holistic doctor who can help you heal with nutrition."

Paul A replied: "Seeing as how it takes Lexapro about six weeks to reach its peak effect, I don't know what you mean by "short while". I've been taking Lexapro for about a year and a half, and I take it before I go to bed - and have no problems with drowsiness. That's something you should talk with your doctor about..."

How long will lexapro take to be out of my system? I have taken Lexapro, 20 MG a day, for 14 months now. I started taking it following a car accident in which I sustained a head injury and was having trouble "getting back to being myself". Now, I feel much better. I am still taking 5 mg of Klonopin a day for anxiety. The wreck did a number on me. But I am back to work, have gone through the physical therapy and chiropractor and am doing fine. I felt it is time to let Lexapro go. I am not depressed. I have however gained 45 pounds while on it. I started by cutting the doses down and today is my first day completely off of it. I am irratible, crying and moody. I do have more energy and feel better but everything my husband does or says rubs me the wrong way. While on the medicine I was an obediennt, quiet zombie. I have not had any physical withdrawl systems at this point, they are all emotional. How long willit be before all of the medicine is out of my system and the withdrawl is gone? Sunshiine

cindy1576 replied: "From what I have beed told, most medications, if taken on a regular basis, will take up to 30 days to get out of you system."

merlin_steele replied: "I'm not sure, but the effects you mentioned sound like me the last time I tried to get off effexor. I felt like I could leave it behind, but when I try, not only do I get these odd trembles that shake me all over, but I was feeling very depressed. Have you talked to your doctor about this? That's what I will do when I get serious about getting off the meds."

D M replied: "you should talk to a DR. about this but i also take lexapro have not gained any weight and dont have anxiety........ do talk to DR because stopping alot of meds. can be serious to your mental heath. good luck"

Having no side effects at all when i miss many doses of lexapro? I have read how a lot of people have horrible side effects from not taking lexapro even for one day.. i have taken it everyday now for about 2 weeks and feel more like a zombie. A few months agoi would forget to take it 4-5 days at a time and wouldnt have any side effects. But now that i am on it again there is no sex drive. I feel like cutting down my 20 mg to 10 mg a day or go every other day

Strawberry Fields Forever replied: "Before you change your dose, please talk with your doctor about the side effects you are experiencing. He is the one who could advise you on how much you should be taking but he can't do this unless you tell him how you are feeling. Don't skip any doses because this could mess up your body system and give mixed signals as to what side effects you have. Talk to your doctor and try taking your medication every day and at the same time or close to the same time as you can."

Fruit Loops replied: "If you don't like the side effects, discuss it with your doctor. There are other medicines besides lexapro that you could try. Let the Dr. know what's going on and see if you could try something else instead. You shouldn't take it upon yourself to change your dosage, and leave that up to the professionals."

silverwingsdc replied: "trust your body - taper off of it. skip doses as many as possible w/o side effects. i am sure nothing is gained by feeling like a zombie."

Paul A replied: "You can cut the 20 mg pills in half - there is a score on the pill for doing that. That way you're more consistent with the medication by taking it daily. And, it saves money, too... 30 20 mg pills is cheaper than 60 10 mg pills!! You didn't say how long you've been taking it, if you've been taking it more than a couple months and feel like a zombie, you're likely on too strong of a dose. Cutting back in that case should take care of the zombie problem - and help a lot with the sexual side effects."

Can anyone offer advice on getting off lexapro, withdrawal sounds horrible? Im on 20mg.Every time I tell my psyche I want off lexapro they just keep upping the dose so Im going to try ween myself off slowly. Can anything bad happen if I try-heart attack or something?Id be grateful for any advice.

old_woman_84 replied: "Sounds like your doctor still thinks you need it. Why would you want off of it?? I think you should listen to your doctor."

gaston8291 replied: "Here is the best advice I can give: I have been through many types of withdrawal including opiods, benzos, and SSRIs. SSRI withdrawal is nowhere near as bad aas opiod withdrawal and benzo withdrawal can be fatal, however, it is uncomfortable, I felt like I was in a haze for a week, HUGE appetite, no sleep, etc, the best thing I can say is to try to make yourself as comfortable as possible, get medically weened down, then off the drug, and consult your doctor..."

Paul A replied: "The key to getting off Lexapro is to get off it very slowly. It took several weeks for the Lexapro to reach full potency in your system - and the same has to happen when you want to get off it. Of course, stopping cold turkey is very not pleasant and you certainly don't want to do that! To get off Lexapro, wean yourself to the lowest dose (5mg). If you're on 20mg, cut them in half (to get 10mg) and take those for a couple weeks, then go to the 5mg pills. After you've been on the 5mg pills for a couple weeks, cut them in half and take the half-pills for a couple weeks, then take the half-pills every other day for a couple weeks, then you can stop. This will slowly remove the Lexapro from your system, and help eliminate the possibility of withdrawal problems. If you wanted to add an extra step at the end, and take the half-pills every third day for a week, you can - but I don't think it's necessary. I wish you the best of luck :-) Paul."

is it ok to take zyrtec as a one time dose if a person takes lexapro on a daily basis? thanks :)

bucs76fan replied: "My wife has been taking both daily for over a year without any problems"

jeetahay replied: "I think a qualified person like a doctor or a pharmacist can answer the question. You should not take medicine on someones daily experiences."

sandy102675 replied: "Check w/ your pharmacist to be sure, but there shouldn't be a problem unless it is Zyrtec-D, this contains pseudoephedrine & can cause a rise in blood pressure & mood swings."

WiserAngel replied: "No drug interactions there. They don't suggest you take Ibuprofen though due to risk of bleeding."

Never had side effects on Lexapro before. It appears I have one now. How come? I am a 44 yo male. My dose of Lexapro was increased 3 weeks ago from 10 to 20 mg. Since the increase, my libido has greatly diminished. This is the first time on Lexapro where I've experienced a side effect. I have been on and off it almost 3 years including times on the 20 mg. During these times being on 20 mg, I have never had ANY side effect. Why do I have a side effect now when I didn't before? Thanks.

Andrew Reed replied: "did you only now start taking it becuase of your fear they will test your blood and LOK you up if you dont have any in your blood!"

robert c replied: "i did the lexapro thing for about 5 years went from 10m to 20mg as well. and yes it will whack out the sex drive, not as bad as paxil but it still sucks, 10mg is not very strong and i felt i was spinning my wheels with nothing to show so i got the bump up to 20 mg than the first thing you feel is a slowing of your libido, so my doc put me on androgel to boost the testosterone levels to counter the lexapro, it helped but was silly expensive, i stopped cold turkey with everything lexapro and all due to the fact it all just started to jack with me to much, you have to choose feeling better moods or haveing better sex,"

Paul A replied: "I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all. There are a lot of people that take Wellbutrin with their SSRI's and SNRI's, it helps to counteract some of the possible side effects - such as drowsiness, weight gain, and the sexual side effects. It really does make a difference!!"

I'm Coming off of Lexapro and going on cymbalta? Because of weight gain my neuorologist is taking me off of Lexapro (10 mg) at a time and adding Cymbalta. Every two weeks I take away 10 mg. I feel different and depressed for days and usually have to up Cymbalta more. My origional dose was 40 mg Lexapro. I take 120mg Cymbalta and down to 10 mg Lexapro. Has anyone had the same effects that I'm having? What did you do to make things better. I cry and sleep most of the time every time I have to change the dose. Please help?

Dawn M replied: "If the Cymbalta isn't working, maybe you need a different antidepressant. How long have you been taking the Cymbalta? It is a good medication. I took it for 2 years. The only problem I had is that it made my heart beat a little faster and caused some anxiety. Lexapro works on Serotonin (SSRI), Cymbalta is a diff rent kind of antidepressant (SNRI) that works on Serotonin and Noripenephrin. If you have the kind of depression where you feel no joy and lack ambition, you may need a medication that works on dopamine as well - which is Wellbutrin. Cymbalta and Wellbutrin - together - cover the 3 major chemicals in your brain. Serotonin, Norepinephrin & Dopamine. Cymbalta pooped out on me after 2 years and now I am on 150 mg Effexor, 150 mg Wellbutrin and 5 mg Amblify. This como has been absolute magic for me (I've been on it for 1 month). Gave me my life back. I understand the frustration of switching meds and playing with dosing. It is so hard to find the right amounts. I have spent a lot of time crying over this topic too. Try not to think too much about dosing and know that sometimes, in order to get better, you have to go up or switch to something else. No more crying, know it will get better, talk to your doc about options and/or concerns. Take care"

Daily Anxiety 2 replied: "Hi Sparkels, The depression and despondency is due to the Neuro chemicals being offcourse because of the change in medication. Be aware that until your medication becomes stable and not speraticly taken so will your Neuro chemicals and so will your stable feelings. Remember those medications directly not indirectly effect your Neuro chemical levels and thus have a direct effect on your emotions and state of being. Just know that this is expected in times of changing doses and or meds. In the mean time just do what makes you feel happy and watch a lot of comedies. DO NOT PUT ANY EXTRA STRESS IN YOUR LIFE AT THIS TIME. Now is the time to laugh and laugh as much as you possibly can. God Bless Elias"

brunetteqt5135 replied: "I tried Lexapro wasn't really great.. and theres not much of a high dose.. I wish I could try Cymbalta. but I can't ... I have tried switching medications and I did have the same stuff.. I think it is the brain trying to figure out the different medication? not sure.. and I don't remember coming slowly off Lexapro.. I am not sure.. It was a long time ago"

Lexapro? Racing heart and shaky legs? is this normal? Ok, I have been severly depressed and having panic attacks for about 6 months. My Dr. Switched me from Zoloft to lexapro about 4 months ago. I started taking 10mg...also with a very small dosage of Klonipin... Well,. This past Thursdays my Dr. took me off of the Klonipin and doubled my dose of Lexapro (20mg) ... Well, the past couple of days I have felt very shaky at times. One min. I am fine and the next my arms and legs are shaink like crazy. What do you think? xoxoxo Stace

tablemutant9 replied: "Call your local pharmacist. They'll know."

Moony replied: "I take 40 mg of Lexapro and have no side effects. But I also take 150 mg of Welbutrin. Remember all people have different side effects different from each others."

charlton_g_w replied: "what are you eating? what exercise are you getting daily min. 15 minutes/day? what relaxation techniques are you practicing twice daily 20 minutes each time? and what talk therapy are you receiving for an hour per week? you address NONE of this in your post... which leads me to believe that you are solely trying to deal with anxiety/panic/stress/depression with medication. also did your MD (hopefully a psychiatrist more like a psychopharmachologist) tell you how you might react (as you are) with such large changes in meds? see the site below for more info:"

thebtpyoda replied: "if you just uppered your dose you should be fine in like a week. it sometimes takes a little time for your boddy to adujsut. if its still bothering you in a week then its too much and you should call up your doctor. i'm going through the same thing right now trying to find a drug that works bc i have a bad anxiety problem. if you want to talk online on aim my screename is thebtpyoda. just in case no pressure."

SaS replied: "Okay. I take "klonipin" and also lexapro. Lexapro is mainly used to DEPRESSION. If you are panic attack sufferer than you need to be taking something for anxiety. The "klonipin" you should of stayed on.... Apparently your anxiety is acting up....And thats not a good feeling. Telll your doc you need something for your anxiety. Either try the klonipin again..or ask for xanax. I take klonipin once a day and xnanax .25mg twice a day. Seems do help me..."

duje replied: "Go straight back to your doctor."

littledevilinyourcup replied: "it is a conbination of withdrawl from the klonopin and an increase in the Lexapro. It took me a few weeks to finally feel normal. the only major side effect I had with the higher dose of Lexapro was what ever I felt or thought about a situation I let everyone know about it. I seem to have lost the filter in the mind that prevents a person from saying exactly what I thought good or bad nice or extremely rude I didnt care."

happywjc replied: "Sorry, but I know very little about this stuff, but it does sound serious, contract the pharacy/doctor right away! MGB"

LEXAPRO and tramadol? Does those two chemicaly interact ? I've read more than a little about using these two together but mostly about staeady use of tramadol. What about ocassional use when I feel pain and I'm on lexapro 10/daily.Can I still take it for the pain. From what I understand advil or aspirin is even worst since they are blood thiners...???Should I skip daily dose of lexapro if I take a dose of tramadol that day(around the same time -morning). (no insurance/not enough money to ask doctor about every detail(they want you to set up a visit every time you want to ask something and than play "safe ball" anyways so you gain almost nothing... :-(

Psychological Maniac replied: "Maybe you should ask a doctor about this, instead of asking some idiot online who will probably lead to your death via overdose? Moron.."
