About Loratadine D in Answers
Cheapest place to get loratadine-D (Claritin-D generic) in the US? Used to get it at Costco - 15 tablets for $5.55, but their generic manufacturer isn't currently making it. Is there somewhere online or in Canada where I can order it? It's really overpriced most other brick and mortar stores ... Suggestions?

Queen of the Dust Mites replied: "http://www.amazon.com/Tablets-Loratadine-Claritin-Generic-Ingredient/dp/B000JEVVY6 150 tablets for $9.95 isn't bad! You should shop the net some. Since you are buying OTC drugs, you don't need to stick with pharmacies. Also, if you don't have to have the pseudoepherine (that is what makes it D) look for the Alavert knock-offs. It is the same active ingredient"

Is Loratadine as effective as Claritin D or a name brand? Parents think it helps, I feel worse.? Does Loratadine have sulfa or sephlosporin in it? Claritin usually works, Loratadine sucks

versantly replied: "loratadine is an antihistamine -not an antibiotic. if you think you have an infection, see your doctor."

bonnie k replied: "Well sometimes the generic formes dont work as well as name brand. I have tryed Loratadine and it was not as effective as name brand. BUT name brand is more expensive. You can take 2 Loratadine at once it will have the same effect as Claritin."

Does loratadine work with itches caused by allergic reactions? I bought loratadine Because i was told benadryl(in pill form) was good for this. I bought it because i know benadryl knocks me out. i figured i'd try loratadine instead(it still knocks me out) I seem to not be itching but could that be the reason or is it just that i'm not itching at this time. Itch creams don't work. I've had this itch for months. I'm hoping this is gonna help because this itch is driving me crazy.

versantly replied: "take the med as directed, drink lotsa water, and follow up with your doctor."

Can I take 2 Claritin 12hr at the same time daily instead of one Claritin D 24hr daily ? the directions for taking claritin d 12hr (loratadine 5 mg/ pseudoephedrine 120 mg) is 1 tablet every 12 hours and the claritin d 24hr (loratadine 10 mg/ pseudoephedrine 240 mg) is 1 tablet a day

KY Physician replied: "no you cant take 2 12 hr tabs at once and expect them to last 24 hrs. they will both get in your system the first 12 hours(and you will be wired from the double dose of sudafed) and then you'll have nothing the second 12 hrs."

kay_flood replied: "so taking two 12 hours will work the same as one 24hour? NO!!! what you do is get a double 12 hour dose and no coverage for the last 12 hours. You are talking about time release pills. You can however take a 12 pill at 7 am and another at 7pm and get the 24 hour coverage."

Overdose on fexofenadine & loratadine? I have severe allergies and I have been taking the generic for allegra (fexofenadine 180 mg). It works for about an hour and then stops working. I have been taking 2 pills a day, when your supposed to take one. Last night around 10 pm I took one, and then again this morning at 9 am. At 10 pm today I took a store brand for Claritin D (loratadine 10mg + PSEUDOEPHEDRINE 280 mg). would that be enough to overdose? I have an appointment at an allergy specialist the 31st. I know I shouldnt be messing around with this stuff, but I really cant function well without taking that much. My doctor is as idiot and just keeps changing my perscription when I complain. Definitely changing docs ASAP and going to the specialist. I read on wikipedia that rats tested with fexofenadine up to 800mg had no reaction, but im not a rat :) Perhaps theres someone out there with experience pertaining to my question & bad seasonal allergies. Thank you all in advance for your input!

Krostina replied: "Be careful! I wouldn't keep that up, sounds like you need to talk to your doc-Allegra shouldn't wear off like that-maybe you need a different kind of medicine."

lizzy_22_1999 replied: "Way more pills then that. You need to go to the doctor and stop messing around with otc crap. Sounds like you need to get more testing for your allergies to know what kind and to what exactly. So they can treat you better. That way you will not have to take so much to get some relief. Good luck and if you think your going to overdose its too much."

OpalMine replied: "call a pharmacist, they know how much is too much"

Does Loratadine treat indoor allergies, or only outdoor allergies? Medicaid will not pay for my Zyrtec-D, which worked for my indoor allergies (dust mites, in particular). Now I've been prescribed "Loratidine," which doesn't seem to be helping me at all. Is Loratadine effective against indoor allergies? It sure doesn't feel like it.

KC replied: "Loratadine is an antihistamine. It doesn't discriminate between what kinds of things it works on. What does discriminate is your reaction to the allergens. Loratadine is supposed to work like Benadryl with out the drowsiness, but I have found in using them both, the benadryl is a better antihistamine. Taking the drowsy side-effect out of Loratadine may have reduced its effectiveness as an antihistamine. Your recourse is to report to your doctor the reduced effectiveness and ask it the dose can be increased, or if they can twist the arm of Medicaid to get your Zyrtec-D back, some way."

beautifulblackwoman20yrsold replied: "It worked for me, what brand are u using?"

daddysnurse replied: "First of all, you shouldn't have needed a prescription for loratidine as it is an over the counter product sold as Claritin, Alavert, etc. These are anti-histamines which work for allergies in general. They can't seek out particular allergens. It is not nearly as strong as the prescription meds. If it isn't working, it would be considered treatment failure which will often get your insurance to pay for another, prescription med. See your doc!!"

kinndee@verizon.net replied: "Its more of an outdoor medicine, but it does help with indoor antihistamine. Ever think of trying a nasal spray like Flonase? Claritin Oral Back to Drug Overview What conditions does this medication treat? Is it Safe to Mix Claritin D and Tylenol Sinus? I took a Claritin D tablet (Loratadine 10 mg, Pseudoephedrine Sulfate 240 mg) this morning at 8 am because i thought i had an allegery and thats why i had Nascal congestion and pain... Turns out im sick so now its 9 pm im really suffering from the nasal pain and cant even consentrate. Would be able to take Tylenol Sinus (Acatamophen 325 mg per cap, Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg per cap....so x2, 650 and 10 mg) right now since Claritin is 24 hour pill? Please provide a chart or some concrete source, I wont believe or give credit to simple "yes and no" responses

Laura L replied: "I can only recommend this because it works for me and my family 100% of the time for 5 people for sinus infection. I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria. you need distilled water sea salt liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store. in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature. add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix. using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down. Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better. The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all. Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time. Then do it once a week for maintenance. There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me. I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore. best wishes"

Alavert and Claridin D? I have really bad allergies and lately i been taking Alavert 24 which only has Loratadine 10mg (which is antihistamine), but im also congested so today i bought claritin D which also has loratadine 5mg ( which is antihistamine) and also has pseudoephedrine sulfate 120 mg (which is nasal decongestant), this morning around 8:30 AM i took one pill of ALAVERT 24hour, so my question is can i take claritin D (by the way claritin D is the 12hour one) tonight around 1030 PM??? will it do anything?

yanxroc replied: "I have terrible allergies, and the things that has worked for me the best is to take a Benadryl before bed (make sure you are going to get 8 hours of sleep), it should help you throughout the day. However, you really should take any medical questions to a doctor or at least the pharmacist. Call your pharmacy and they should be able to help you."

UPESKYMO replied: "No I would not do that. You could have a chance of overdosing. Please wait until tomorrow at 8:30A.M. I am taking a drug called Palgic and it is working really well. You need a prescription for it, but if you are desperate that is the way to go. Good Luck. Hope you feel better soon."

How long will it take me to get better from this infection? I have a bacterial infection in my sinus cavities, the doctor said it was caused by a cold that I never got over. He prescribed Astelin, Tylenol w/codeine, Claritin, and Loratadine. I feel just miserable, I'd been suffering from this for over 2 months before I saw a doctor (stupid, I know), does anyone know when I will start feeling better?

PoohBearPenguin replied: "Ok, the other stuff I can understand, but tylenol w/codeine? That seems like overkill. If he wants you to just sleep for the next 3 days, hitting you over the head with a frying pan would be a more effective method than doping you into oblivion... Anyways, a sinus infection reacts well to a combination of decongestant and antibiotic. You should start feeling better pretty quickly - but don't stop taking the antibiotics until you've finished them."

colanth replied: "He didn't tell you to irrigate with salt water? That usually has you feeling a little better in a couple of days. (You still have the infection, but you feel a little better.)"
