What is the best medication to take for extreme menstrual cramps other then midol, pamprin and motrin? I take alot of over the counter drugs, all of which don't work. Please help! Any mediciations, or home remedys are appreciated!

berge replied: "Haha i'd go for a lortab or codone.... but, that could end up bad. There's really no other except tylenol or advil, but birth control can help cramps long term. Also, make sure you excersize regularly and get plenty of iron and calcium in your diet."

greenburg603 replied: "For my painful cramps I get those heat therapy wraps. They advertise them on tv. It's like a heating pad but without the plug, just wrap it around your stomach and it works for 8-10 hours. I tried it several times and it works wonders.I would stay away from water too because water causes bloating for me."

I have really bad menstrual cramps, can I take motrin even though I got wasted last night? cause i heard u can't take medicine after u drink

Ozark Butterfly replied: "I think it would be okay to take but to be on the safe side, give a pharmacy a call and ask them, they are very helpful at answering questions...sometimes they are better then a doctor!"

alialoggi replied: "Suffer through the hang over? No way! Take the motrin, now, and I've found that either sleep helps or energy drinks do. Good luck!"

Is motrin 800 (mlg) good for a bad backache from menstrual cramps? This question is regarding my 13 year old daughter who has really bad cramos and backaches. We have tried Midol and Pamprin but they are just not stronge enough. They only take the pain away for a short time.

samantha29817 replied: "I would suggest giving her two Tylenol and drinking some Chamomile tea. Also try some hot water bottles. I know how she feels when I was her age I had terrible cramps also but once I got into my late teens they seemed to improved. When I had my 2 children they came back worse than before. The Tylenol, tea, and water bottles help alot though."

kay replied: "Ibuprofen ( Motrin) is great for cramps and I highly recommend it. Depending on her weight, at 13, 600 mg may be plenty. If she's only taking it for a few days, no problem. Be sure to give it with food. The hot H20 bottle idea is also great ( or heating pad), or warm bath."

kitty.hicks replied: "I have found that Aleve works even better than motrin for mentrual cramping.... give it a try. The generic works just as well also."

craigtamborella replied: "ABSOLUTELY!!"

Does drinking carbonated beverages help relieve menstrual cramps? A friend told me that she drinks beer or anything carbonated to relieve her menstrual cramps or dysmenorrhea. Can anyone shed some light on this? I get cramps every month & I've tried midol and motrin but to no avail.

HAIRSPRAY #1 FAN replied: "i drink carbonated beverages when i have stomach aches and it helps so there probly is truth to that."

mia love hearts x replied: "it has the opposit effect on me, ask your doctor about Mefanamic acid, and transnamic acid. they help me, loads, x x"

Jessicca Francis replied: "Well I don't know about beer but I think decaf herbal tea usually helps me."

onlymatch4u replied: "NO. In fact, the phosphoric acid in sodas depletes your body of calcium and that is what gives you the cramps, the deficiency in calcium in your muscles. The irony of that is that even though it makes the cramps worse, it will also make you feel a little better if you have nausea because phosphorus is what will take nausea away. So it may make you feel a "little" better, but will make the over all problem worse. Your blood calcium levels have to remain very constant and within a very tight range or you die. The body's mechanism for maintaining that level is managed by the parathyroid gland and the thyroid gland. Both these glands sense the level of calcium in the blood and produce hormones that cause calcium to be added to or taken from the muscles first and then the bone to maintain this level. It is not enough to just take calcium and expect this to be solved. There are many cofactors the body requires to cause calcium to be absorbed or not. One such cofactor, for instance is the pH of your stomach must be low enough so that when the calcium from food enters the jejunum it can be absorbed through the walls of the small intestine. If you take antacids, have low stomach acid, etc., you will not absorb the calcium and become deficient. If you drink sodas with lots of phosphoric acid, you will become deficient. If you live near power lines, cell towers or use a lot of electronic equipment, this will deplete your calcium levels. Muscles use minerals to contract and relax. All the drugs used to fix your minstrel cramps only treat the symptoms, not the "root cause" and that is what modern medicine has degraded into. Once you learn what is causing the calcium deficiency or why your body is not utilizing the calcium it is getting from food, you will solve your cramping problems. Don't expect doctors to do this for you, they have no idea how nutrition works in the body; they simply have no training or education on this matter. They are not about health, they are about treating symptoms. To understand what your body needs to be healthy, you should find a good Certified Nutritional Therapist that can test you for specific nutritional deficiencies and can recommend specific dosages of supplements and diets that can put you on the road to health, instead of drugs that damage your body and sentence you to a sliding slope toward the terminal. good luck"

misssmartie_26 replied: "carbonated beverages have the opposite effect on me...they make the cramps and the bleeding worse....i guess it depends on the person....what i find helps me most is putting a hot water bottle bag on my stomach and taking a couple of aleve and lay down for a couple hours then i feel good as new"

Any suggestions for menstrual cramps that are kicking my butt? Any suggestions? Motrin won't even touch these cramps! And my heating pad is making me sweat like a fat woman in a van on a hot day. Suggestions please?

Fanda Ortiz replied: "midol? ibuprofen? i heard drinking a lot of water should help"

Dr. DOLY replied: "causes of menstrual cramps - medical treatment - natural remedies (see below)"

Jess replied: "take Aleve"

♥simply me♥ replied: "midol, ibuprofin, hot baths, warm wash cloths, ice cream takes ur mind off of it!"

Chelsey replied: "for now take some mydol along with everything, the heat should really help with the cramps just try to ignore the sweating or turn on a fan to cool off the rest of your body, if they're really bad every month you can check with your doctor for a muscle relaxer, I did and now I take appo-naproxen, it takes effect in about half-hour"

kaite replied: "alive/pamprin. water and bananas. it sounds funny, but bananas really help!"

What is the best quick fix for menstrual cramps? I get really bad cramps, and have gone on birth control to help, take alot of motrin and advil, use heating pads, nothing seems to help. What are some good quick remedies?

Stephanie M replied: "that's all i use, heating pads/ tylenol. I had an ablation done that helped significanly, but i only recommend this if you're done having children P.S my mom was on "rose hips". They're vitamins you can find just about anywhere. Pretty sure that's the name, I know it's rose something. You take like 4? a day. She took them and swears by them. She felt better within 2 periods. Check with your doc first and make sure you're ok to take them, i'm not sure if they interfere with BC. Also i was on Seasonale and my cramps got soooooo much worse, you can get fibroid tumors from too much.....estrogen??? I think *. Maybe try a different kind of BC. Good luck!!"

SP replied: "I do yoga, meditation and deep breathing. Please Google yoga for menstural cramps and you will get a lot of postures that will help you ease it. Practice it even if you are feeling uncomfortable. It will help you after about 20 minutes. Drink a lot of water so that you help your system flush toxins out. Good luck"

Mom replied: "Exercise really helps, just walking, although it is hard to get going when you feel crappy. Once you do, the pain really lessens. If you can walk a mile or two on the treadmill you will feel lots better. Also having an orgasm (or more) always helped me. ;)"

Sarah R replied: "The only thing that 100% takes away my horriffc pain from cramps is when I sneak my sister's Tylenol w/ Codine. I usually take about 4 ibuprofen pills, curl up w/ a heating pad on my tummy, and cry. Sometimes it's not so bad... Other times it makes me want to puke because the pain is so intense."

Obelix replied: "Take Borage oil or Flax seed oil or Evening primrose oil health supplements. They reduce the menstrual cramps."

lakeguy2302 replied: "The best quick fix according to my gf is masturbation or having sex with lots of orgasms. And sex is not nasty when you're on your period. Blood washes off, and it's really no big deal to me. If it makes my gf feel better, then I am glad to help."

What are some good ways to get rid of menstrual cramps? i stopped taking birth control 2 months ago because my husband and I are trying to conceive our second child but this month my cramps are worse than they have ever been. I have tried pamprin, motrin, advil and nothing seems to be working. I have a toddler so its hard for me to get rest chasing her around. Any other ideas I can try?

Sky replied: "Midol, tea, sleep, tylenol,"

Dad-to-be.. aka SETH. replied: "When my wife used to have menstrual cramps she used to put something frozen against her stomach or else something really hot, she said it really helped so you should try that."

Amanda S replied: "I take a pain reliever called Percogesic, it is basically a mixture of advil and Benadryl (it helps me sleep like Benadryl and relieves pain better than Advil in my opinion), but Midol works wonders too. I also use a hot/cold pack that you can warm in the microwave or freeze. You can find them online (the one I have is so old the brand name has worn off or I would tell you). Mine is basically a small, lavender and grain filled pillow. There are also instructions on how to make your own hot pack online if you are crafty."
