Can anyone help me with my Drug Study (Propantheline)? I can't seem to find propantheline on my drug handbook.. Could someone give to me the ACTION of the drug, its INDICATION, its CONTRAINDICATION, ADVERSE EFFECT and NURSING CONSIDERATIONS.. Thanks a lot..

Brooke replied: "uses: PUD, symptomatic rx of SI hypermotility, spastic colon, ureteral spasm, bladder spasm, pylorospasm action: antimuscarinic contraindication: narrow angle glaucoma, ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon, GI or GU obstruction SE: anticholinergic effects - xerostomia and blurred vision common nursing consid - may cause heat intolerance, increase risk of photosensitivity - use sunscreen interactions: increase anticholinergic effects with antihistamines, antideps, atropine, haloperidol phenothizaines, quinidine, TCAs, increase effects of atenolol, digoxin, decreased effects with antacids"

Propantheline tablets ? My orthodontist gave me two tablets to take and one and a half hours before i get my braces on and that's right before lunch at school. So , if it's supposed to make my mouth dry im not aloud to eat or drink anything, right ?

Will H replied: "USES: Propantheline is used, in combination with other medicine, to treat peptic ulcers. Do not take propantheline for stomach ache due to gas or for any problem other than the one for which it was specifically prescribed. OTHER USES: This medication may also be used for other digestive tract problems (irritable bowel syndrome) and in cases where control over urine flow is desired (for urinary incontinence). HOW TO USE: Take this medication 30 minutes before meals. Take this medication as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or take it more frequently without consulting your doctor. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication unless your doctor directs you otherwise. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach ache, flushing, problems sleeping, headache, blurred vision, constipation, dry mouth, reduced sweating, drowsiness or thirst. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: confusion, tremors, rapid or irregular heartbeat, difficulty urinating. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: glaucoma, enlarged prostate gland, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid gland, liver disease, heart or blood vessel disease, kidney disease, myasthenia gravis (a muscle problem), difficulty urinating, contact lens usage, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or other lung disease, any allergies. Because this medication may cause drowsiness, use caution when driving or performing tasks requiring alertness. This medication reduces sweating which can lead to heatstroke in hot weather. Use caution when engaging in strenuous activity in hot weather. Contact lens wearers may need to use eye lubricants if this medication causes drying of the eyes. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of propantheline. Use cautiously. Propantheline should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding."
