WHEN SWITCHING FROM CYMBALTA TO PROZAC, SHOULD i WEAN, OR JUST TAKE LAST CYMBALTA ON E DAY & START PROZ. NEXT? It's a very low dose Prozac and I've tolerated it well in the past.

blackmagicrose13 replied: "It depends on what your doctor says, but usually you'll take the new one right after the old one, as long as the two don't have any reaction issues together. If they do, you may have to be off meds for 24-72 hours to make sure they get out of your system. Ask your doctor."

Anyone tried switching from Prozac to Cymbalta? If so, what are your thoughts? I'd like to know how effective you thing Cymbalta is...

star_accord replied: "watsup!!! I switched from Zoloft to Prozac because I was gaining weight. Now I feel the same and I am trying hard to loose the 5 lbs that I've gained with Zoloft."

My Dr just switched me from Prozac to Cymbalta.? First of all I was on 60mg of Prozac and it wasn't helping my depression. I also have a shoulder injury so the Dr thought Cymbalta may be a better choice.

Chris D replied: "Get off the meds completely there just going to ruin your life in the long run."

Switching from Cymbalta to fluoxetine (Prozac)? I recently got a new insurance plan which does not cover brand name medications. Because of that, my doctor switched me from Cymbalta (which I did great on) to generic Prozac. I started the new medications two days ago, and today I feel the same way I used to if I ever missed a dose of my Cymbalta--nauseous and I have a headache. Has anyone else switched from Cymbalta to generic Prozac (fluoxetine)? How did you feel? Did it work well for you? I response to why I couldn't take generic Cymbalta--they don't offer it in a generic form yet. If they did, I would have been all over it. But because it's still so new, they only offer it under Cymbalta at $135 a month (which is what I would have had to pay under my insurance).

Alex W replied: "They should have done it slowly if not then you are going to feel real bad and it take time for the old med to come out of you and the new med are going to take a week to a month to work."

I am the architect of lies. replied: "First of all, generic Prozac and brand name Prozac is exactly the same thing. It's still fluoxetine, either way. The only difference is the cost. Secondly, why couldn't you take generic Cymbalta if it was working well for you? Thirdly, it's absolutely normal to have those side effects when changing medications. Your body's not used to it, for one thing. And some people don't react well to certain medications. Maybe Prozac isn't your thing. Tell your doctor about the adverse effects that you've had with this new medication and go from there."

MeAgain replied: "If you liked Cymbalta call the company that makes it and ask if they have a hardship program. You MIGHT be able to get them for free or at little cost."

what will ahppen if I swithch from cymbalta to prozac? I'm thinking about it cymbalta is makeing me gain crazy weight! anyone make this switch what to expect. I have major anxiety! thats why I take it natural therapy is crap doesn't work unless you really never had a problem to begin with

SUSAN K replied: "any one of those meds may or may not help i'd only use them to stabilize and then go to natural therapy check on curezone.com also eat healthy, take vitamins and sleep plenty do as many things as you can that are good for you and i am sure your body will benefit from it and your mind too good luck"

Rick P replied: "I went from Lexapro to generic Prozac and I switched back, because it seemed like the generic Prozac wasn't working at all. I'm back to feeling good. I'm told different meds work for different people, so your experience could be different."

Has anyone tried Cymbalta for PMDD? My Dr switched me from Prozac to this yesterday.? Prozac was good for the PMDD but was increasing my appetite and making me extremely drowsy. Does Cymbalta usually cause any appetite increase or drowsiness? I just started taking it today, 30 mg then I go to 60mg after a week. I asked to be switched because I was not happy with the side effects of Prozac.

HELPING LADY replied: "http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheOpenDoorForsupport/"

Dra J replied: "Since I am unfamiliar with your case, my initial opinion is, you should have stayed on Prozac, since it worked for you, and just decreased the dose and/or added another to the drug regimen. Have you asked your MD why, the change? mind health forum"

Anyone gain weight while on cymbalta, paxil, celexa, effexor, or prozac? Im tring to find the right one for me? My Dr. first started me on Celexa 40mg in two months I gained 8 pounds without changing my normal eating patterns...so then he switched me to Effexor this gave me night terrors and i felt hazy all day but lost weight then DR..switched to Prozac 40mg felt ok,still a bit depresses but calm and relaxed. 3lbs gain: after 2 month..dr switched to Cymbalta I really seen no change didnt feel it helped..still felt down and more gain4lbs but another now Paxil,,,calms me down to an extent but I don't need any more weight increases! Plus my mobility isn't the greatest so excercises are limited.. Any suggestions, personal stories would be appreciated im 21 started out at 138 now 159! :(

Gloria A replied: "I used to take some name something like northropolyne (sorry about the spelling, there were pretty good but I gain about 30 pounds. I was eating all the time, but after a while the doctor has to change it because he said that is not good for your heart. They gave Zoloff it make feel a little bit better, but I don't gain any wait. I lost 25 pounds."

SEN replied: "Paxil, I couldn't pee. I had to go the ER to pee. Effexor, I gained a little."

SlamAndBeyond replied: "Yessss! I've gained weight on Celexa (big time). Most antidepressants, especially SSRI's can cause weight gain. Tricyclic antidepressants are even worse. Although, Wellbutrin (bupropion) has actually been shown to help people lose weight. Hope this helps."

YA Junkie replied: "Hi: I know what you mean about weight gain. By looking at your meds, your primary diagnosis is clinical or major depression. Maybe you have a side order of anxiety. (Having these two problems together is fairly common.) I did lose a significant amount of weight (maybe 15 pounds) while taking 400 mg of wellbutrin SR. A whopping 28% of folks on this med lose weight. See the link below. Don't you feel sorry for people experiencing the side effect of weight loss :=) To a much smaller extent, zoloft can help some folks lose weight, as the other link describes. It could be worse. I attend a support group for people with depression, bipolar disorder, etc. Almost all of the mood stabilizers and antipsychotics used for bipolar can put on huge amounts of weight---over 50 pounds. I was briefly on an antipsychotic called seroquel and put on about 20 pounds in 2 months! Wellbutrin has a reputation of increasing the energy level of folks with depression. If you have that problem, that would be another reason to give wellbutrin a try. I suggest that you ask for wellbutrin SR or XL, not the immediate release wellbutrin. All my best."

Has anyone tried Cymbalta for anxiety? I'm switching from Prozac to Cymbalta. I'm still on Buspar.

Khrizteen replied: "ive taken buspar before, it works pretty well, but my mom has taken cymbalta before she said it make her very shaky and nervy. It may work differently for different people. See your doctor"

mom of 3 and done! replied: "On Cymbalta for a few years now, no jitters,no nothing, aside from feeling good, up to 60mg and am on wellbutrin 150 of that. Like the other poster said, it affects everyone different. Good Luck"

zack replied: "no but currently on zoloft for 2 weeks and had one panic attack and increased anxiety not sure about ssri?"

anyone been on prozac for 5 years or more and feel like it no longer works? thinking of switching to cymbalta. if you are on cymbalta do you like it? also what about topamax?

aaron_moses_2001 replied: "In Europe Prozac is sold under the name "Fluctin" — but I've never heard that someone took it more than six months.... Try to stop and do not switch to another drug. You increase the daily dose and turn into a drug edict. Sorry, this really happens. So stop it!"

loria f replied: "Daer one ,my husband has started cambalta 3 weeks ago and it took a few days but now he feels much better ,It is a good med.for depression ,now at first week of taking it he seemed more depressed but now he has leveled out and is doing great ,so yes try it .good Luck hope yah feel better ."

goldie replied: "It's not unusual for a tolerance to a drug to develop after prolonged use. Why did you chose cymbalta? Have you done the research on it or has your therapist suggested it? These drugs aren't like candy--you need to know the effects each one has for your condition and the side effects. I don't mean this as a criticism. It's just that some people hear about a new drug and thinks that's the magical cure. Having said that, I've been on just about every drug out there because I've had bipolar disorder all my life. I started Cymbalta almost a year ago and it's been highly successful. My moods have stabilized as much as they can, I have energy for the first time in a long time, I feel clear-headed and even cheerful. Talk to your doctor who knows your condition and can make the best recommendation for you."

Is there a generic for the drug Cymbalta? I've been thinking of asking my doctor to switch me from Celexa, which I've been on now for 6 years, before that I was on Prozac, to Cymbalta. I've been taking antidepressants most my life due to a chemical imbalance in my brain causing severe depression and the Celexa seems to have stopped helping. I just can't afford to pay too much for something new. Please let me know if there is a generic. Thanks!

vinnie2 replied: "No, there is no generic yet. There are some programs that help pay for meds. i saw that one with Monte Williams?, can't remember the name. edit Found it !"

Bruce replied: "No."

Tina W replied: "Effexor ER I have heard good things about but it's expensive. Lithium is sometimes used and is cheap. Check out the Walmart 4 dollar plan too."
