It's where the body gets used to the drug, and you start to display withdrawal symptoms despite taking the normal daily dose."
Zoloft withdrawal symptoms? I’m having a rough time with what I believe are Zoloft withdrawals. I’ve looked online and apparently it can take months for the body to stabilize itself again. I am having a bad time with irritability, anxiety, and insomnia. Thing is I never had a problem sleeping before I started meds. I’m one month out from my last pill. I feel like I’m at my wit’s end, especially with the insomnia. Doctor who prescribed it never mentioned any problems with withdrawals, but it seems more common than not. Anyone been thru similar experience and how long did the withdrawal symptoms last? I’m taking a homeopathic medication called Calms Forte which apparently takes the edge off and has no side effects. It has helped me relax, but not enough to get a full night’s sleep. When I’m really desperate, I may take a Tylenol PM or Benadryl.
Sara replied: "Have you quit cold turkey? As in just completely stopped taking the pills? Because that is a big no-no, it will make you go through some crazy withdrawal symptoms. Did your doctor tell you to stop or did you stop on your own? What you should do is gently ween yourself off of them and then you will not feel the harsh side effects. Coming off of antidepressants is really difficult, it could make you feel even worse then before you starting taking them.
Just be careful and you should always discuss decisions like this with your doctor. Zoloft is especially brutal for withdrawal symptoms."
mmonroe_69 replied: "Did you quit taking it cold turkey? Zoloft is one of those medications that you should wean from. I know this from personal experience. I had been on Zoloft for some three years. Due to losing my medical insurance and not being able to afford my medications, I just quit taking it once my last pill was gone. There was a noticeable change by day 2. Yes, I was irritable, bitchy, tense and on edge about everything, and of course there was the insomnia. I'll be completely honest with you and tell you that there were even some homicidal ideations. The worst of this lasted for about 3 weeks. I did my best to stay away from people in general. I still had to work and deal with the kids but I kept to myself as much as I could. My siblings and friends always would ask, "have you had your happy pill today?" It wasn't that the Zoloft made me happy, it was that I wasn't a wreck. While you are on antidepressants there is a kind of apathy there. Things just don't get so bad. When you come off of them quickly, it all comes flooding back. I am now 3 months out and things are better. The irritability, anxiety, and insomnia are still there. Those however, are signs/symptoms of depression. Some days are worse than others. I am not at the point that I was when I first started taking Zoloft but once I get insurance again, I will definitely be going back to the doctor and refilling that script. Some people look down on the idea of being on antidepressants. Depression is a real medical condition. Do we as a people look down on people that need to be on insulin or blood pressure medicine? I am okay with knowing that I am chemically imbalanced. If it takes medication to level things out a bit and to keep you that way, why stop taking it and expect that it all has just fixed itself?"
Am I experiencing Zoloft withdrawal symptoms? Every now and then, when I look/turn quickly to the left or the right, my head begins to throb with this pounding, dizzying sensation.
I do believe it's the result of Zoloft.
I've been taking Zoloft for about five to six years now, and I've weaned myself all the way down to 25 mg once every 4 days.
BUT...
Every now and then, this throbbing issue comes up, usually a day before I take the pill again. I get dizzy, and my head throbs like my brain itself is beating as if it were my heart instead. It stops after a few seconds, but it's really getting annoying that I can't make any sudden movements without this happening.
Other symptoms that I've noticed include lethargy, crappier motor skills, and some sort of dyslexia that I never had before, where I've come to call myself Doc from Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, in that I mutilate the English language. I'm a very eloquent person when I talk, so it's especially frustrating that I'm not able to make simple statements anymore without messing up several words.
Does anyone know if there's any way to stop these problems? Or am I basically experiencing unavoidable withdrawal symptoms from not using enough Zoloft?
I've read that people can experience withdrawal symptoms simply by not taking ENOUGH zoloft, so perhaps I'm actually prolonging the problem by not quitting cold turkey?
Any thoughts, anyone? I'd really appreciate the help...
Further info: I don't have a doctor anymore. I just have leftover pills that I've continued to take (1 dosage of 25mg once every 4 days). The tapering-off was my own doing.
Now that I'm taking so little, I want to quit cold turkey. I only have about 8 pills left anyway, but I question even continuing to use those ones.
I think I'm just prolonging my withdrawal symptoms by not quitting now. I put a tiny bit of zoloft into my body, I wait 4 days. By the 3rd day, I have typical withdrawal symptoms.
I take another 25mg dosage. The symptoms go away for another two days, then come back on the 3rd or 4th day.

Douglas B replied: "I really don't think it's about the meds. I used to go through some of the same things and found that once I got rid of my headaches the whole world came into focus better than ever and those problems went away. The only way I can say things happened is that the pain got so bad it washed over into other parts of the brain and messed them up as well. Here are the techniques I used to release the muscles which got rid of the pain, do the one for your back first:
For your neck:
place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath an happening, the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp.
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side."
writeraz replied: "Are you self-medicating or is a doctor weaning you down to 25mg every four days? Going off zoloft does have withdrawals.
Many people who discontinue their antidepressant abruptly may experience symptoms like fatigue, nausea, myalgia, insomnia, anxiety, agitation, dizziness, hallucinations, blurred vision, irritability, tingling sensations, vivid dreams, sweating or electric shock sensations. Some will experience only minor symptoms and miss the connection with their antidepressant thinking that perhaps they have the flu. For others, the symptoms are so debilitating that they feel they cannot stop their antidepressant for fear of how it will interfere with their lives.
It's best you tell your doctor what's going on."

it's basically a forum, but it seems as if all users are or have taken zoloft."
How to get rid of withdrawal symptoms from zoloft (or any SSRI) that have lasted for longer than a month? I was on zoloft for 6 months
8 months later I feel like I am going through the withdrawal symptoms
SHOULD I GO BACK ON ZOLOFT FOR A FEW MONTHS AND TAPER OFF SLOWLY? (My highest dose was 50 mg)
Also, I was on zoloft for 6 months and have been of it for 8 months...so I am feeling these withdrawal symptoms 8 months after stopping the medication. Answers like you should taper off slowly do not help since I have not been on the medication for 8 months now. My question is should I go back on it just to taper off properly?
Lisa Rowe replied: "Talk to your DR. & yes you should always taper off an SSRI slowly. Same with Xanax"

It may be easier to slowly replace the sertraline with fluoxetine (Prozac) 90:10, 80: 20 etc. Then wean off the fluoxetine, as per the above."

Sertraline Zoloft Withdrawal Symptoms? Hello I been off of Sertraline antidepressant for some time now, and I was on it for about 2 years and I think maybe the withdrawal symptoms maybe finally kicking in. I tried searching it but could'nt really find anything, Im also pregnant in my 3rd month but its kind of hard to tell apart why im if its my pregnancy or withdrawals....
I get symptoms like extreme tiredness, drowsyness, sometimes difficulty catching my breath and sore muscles, like the other night I woke up feeling like I did alot of setups...
I don't have a appoint with my doctor in a few weeks and could'nt see him any sooner and don't really find a need to go to the hospital so far....
Thanks in advice.....
peaches replied: "Zoloft is safe to take while pregnant and breastfeeding. That is what the doctor told me during my last 3 pregnancies. I knew the known benefits of the medicine outweighed the unknown. However, if you really don't need it which I doubt since you have been taking it for two years, you should taper off of it slowly if you are definitely quitting. Have you talked to the Doctor that prescribed the Zoloft? Oh yeah, all those symptoms sound like being 3 months pregnant. I think Zoloft withdrawal would effect your thoughts and behaviors more."
honeychild_star replied: "Hey, congrats on being pregnant!
I was on Zoloft for about 4 years, and i just abruptly stopped taking it, and I had no withdrawal symptoms. No one i know has had them either! Im guessing its pobably just being pregnant! Dont worry though apparently it gets easier after 3 months!!!!
Good Luck"
