Is zyrtec going to be over the counter soon? I heard that it is , but I can't find any more details.

cintchick replied: "The patent on Zyrtec is set to expire on December 25, 2007. A company named Caraco has tentative approval from the FDA for a generic version. It is expected the FDA will give final clearance to Caraco's generic once the Zyrtec patent expires. You can expect the generic will be on the market shortly thereafter. The sources for this information are included below."

Now that Zyrtec is going to be available over the counter...? Zyrtec is going to be available over the counter on January 24th. How do you think it will affect you and your family? What do you think the cost will be? Will it affect those who have a prescription for other allergy medications?

grandmadarcy replied: "My daughter and I both take Zyrtec daily. She was getting her prescription through NC Choice for Children for only $1.00. I was getting through the pharmaceutical company that made them for a small fee. Now we will be spending about $40.00 a month for these meds which is going to make our budget even more tight. My husband is totally disabled and I can only work part time due to poor health. I am hoping that something good will come out of this."

can my son take zyrtec and over the counter medicines too? Dimetap, benedryl, robitussin, triaminic, mucinex. any of these. he is on it once a day and i was wondering if any of you knew if there was a specific drug/ingredient that shouldn't be taken at the same time.

Kristy replied: "What kind of over the counter medicines do you mean?"

d.a.f.f.y. replied: "Maybe you could let us know what the over the counter medicines are or you could call your pharmacy and ask them. Better to be safe than sorry!"

littledevilinyourcup replied: "my son was on zyrtec daily and his doctor told me if nessessaty he could take benadryl also."

Queed replied: "I'm not 100% sure so I don't want to tell you one way or the other, but your pharmacist will know of sure. Just call Walmart's pharmacy and ask to talk to the pharmacist you won't even have to go there."

andrea w replied: "yes zyrtec is one of the safest drugs anyone can take..!!"

phillybookwoman replied: "I've been taking Zyrtec and Benedryl for well over 5 years. It's totally safe. Occasionally, when I get a cold, I'll take Robitussin while still maintaining my other two allergy meds. Your son should be fine, however give his doctor a call and be sure it is ok with the doctor. Hope this helps."

Pls state the dosage amt for over the counter Zyrtec as available in Ireland.? In the US, Zyrtec is only available by doctor's prescription. I'll see my doctor tmrw and would like to request the same dosage of the medication that I had used while visiting Ireland. The size and shape of the pill was about that of a single grain of "long" rice. One pill was for twenty-four hours. Pls advise. Thank you!!

Devin C replied: "I am not quite sure what the dosage was in Ireland, but the recommended dosage for Zyrtec (certirizine) is 5-10 mg daily."

bob s replied: "comes in 5mg and 10mg (sound like the 5mg dose) if 5mg works for you, you should still try and get the 10mg and split the pills, it will save you money"

What's the process of a medication going over the counter that was a prescription drug??? Like for example Zyrtec that was once a prescription drug. Now it can be bought over the counter. What is the process or what regulations does it have to go through? Is is like from the FDA or something? Thanks

faith..hope..charity.. replied: "yes must be FDA approved...they have to do several studies to make sure the drug is relatively safe to use for most individuals."

Is Zyrtec an over the counter medication? Does it work for cat allergies? For anyone who has cat allergies and have tried Zyrtec or can suggest something that works better to relieve the symtoms.

radin_ah replied: "It is OTC and it does work on cat allergys."

PsychProf replied: "Zyrtec is a prescription only medication: See It does work for "indoor" allergies, which includes cat dander."

Confused21201 replied: "It's not OTC and it never did a thing for my cat allergy. Try Singulair."

clarnely_2001 replied: "Zyrtec is not an over the counter medication. I have taken almost everything on the market for Allegries and I know that what medication might work best for you might not what be best for everyone else. I actually used Nascort for the longest time and it made things a lot better. Zyrtec is good depending on how it effects you. You should really talk to a doctor or try it yourself."

Shorty replied: "It is not a OTC drug but claratin is and that will work for indoor and out door alleries."
